Draft Profile - Nathan Foley

That's why the Rookie list is a great thing, from day one I liked the look of Foley because he attacked the ball, there was questions on his natural skill but never on his determination.

Now he is fast becoming an elite footballer in every sense as he has had the time to develop. Best thing is he wears a Tigers jumper.

Amazing how someone who averaged 30 possies a game (high of 43) and kicks 12 goals in 16 or so games was considered not good enough.

I am glad he has improved his disposal, that was the only real weakness they mentioned on the profile. I love reading these old write ups before players who drafted, good job finding it :thumbsu:

I was surprised to see Jordan Lewis get described as nothing special.

I find it amusing how this guy who wrote these draft profiles wrote under Murry Bushranges that Kane Tennace had suppurb skills and they'd want him a lot, though Foley was too small didnt use it well enough and they wouldnt draft him as a rookie. Whoever decided to draft Foley should be getting a pay rise.

Foley was awesome with Geelong and I was definately on his bandwaggon.

His greatest strength at that level was being continually moving. He would get from contest to contest to contest. He was a guy who would dispose of the ball and then follow the play - whereas most get rid of it and then stop.

The downside of that was that he fatigued badly and a lot of the criticism of his kicking I believed was misplaced. He would generally kick well early and then begin to struggle as he tired. At the end of quarters and in the last quarter he would spray a few - and that is what a lot of people would remember.

I was working at that game where he got the 43 touches and burnt off 3 taggers. It was clear he was the real deal. And although I am a bloke who has never advovated recruiting rovers - I certainly wanted Foley.

Foley might have a fraction more improvement in him too. As I mentioned - his great ability is to keep going and going. A little Rob Harvey like in that Harvey gets to every contest. Foley was always going to need to build that stamina up over a few preseasons. He probably can still build some more running power over the next couple of offseasons - and get to even more contests.

one of three players on our current list who i said was gonna be a star when i first saw him. the others being edwards and thursfield.

Jordan Lewis is nothing special, he gets the ball alot but doesn't have a huge impact on the game, if Lewis is to become better he needs to start damaging other teams with his disposal and also try and kick some goals.

I can remenber you were all over tenance at this draft, you mentined about a passage of play he pulled off - something about kicking a goal without breaking stride. You also said after we rookied Foley that you were unsure about his pace.

No one ever thought he would come on this quickly but I think you are being an little in accurate in claiming him now. You may have thought it but I don't think you verbalised it here.

The Jordan Lewis atricle must have some merit to it because he was taken the draft the following year, clubs obviously were'nt looking at him too closely the first year.

Everyone was all over Tenance. It wasn't just his pace, but his hard running. He was a great goalkicker from the wing in juniors. He'd take people on, run past a few blokes and kick the long goal.

I have been a Foley fan for a while and I think you will find that I was the only one on the Draft board who mentioned either Foley or Thursfield and had them as draft candidates.

Fair enough - by no means am i suggessting that i have read all your posts - that would be cyber stalking !!!!!

In the Tiger Bulletin us Tiger members get they interviewed him I think in the March edition and he was saying how he used to be a "grab & hack" player but has continually worked on running with the ball.

This is exactly how he plays now, true star is Foley :) :thumbsu:
