Dragons recruit three more players to squad list
By Caroline Wilson
Southern Dragons have capped off a strong recruiting period in the off season, swelling its squad list by three with the additions of akkaps, new player @B Tron and returning player Deddy, who joins the club after a short break from the SFA. The signings by the Dragons have well and truly offset the departures the club suffered after the completion of season 16 which saw several outsiders criticise the club's leadership and its alleged lack of direction. Those fears have been put to bed quickly with the signatures of all three players coming within a few days of each other.
Akkaps comes to the club after stint with Gold City Royals where he was a contributor to the club's statistical information, a role which he will also take up at Dragon Island. Akkaps acknowledged he was new to the club but was prepared to work hard in order to be a solid contributor at the Dragons. Akkaps said, "I'm going to be one of the new guys at the Dragons but I am prepared to work hard at the club and do my best to contribute in order for the Dragons to move in the right direction and so that I can get to where I want to be. I'm not afraid of doing the hard yards and I intend to do that so I can help the Dragons move back up the ladder."
B Tron is a new player to the SFA and comes to the competition as a highly touted youngster, some of whom believe he is capable of winning the EKA medal. After a pretty good junior career and impressing at the Dragons academy, B Tron has won a spot on the list and doesn't intend to let the club down. He is also good mates with The Filth Wizard who played a large role in getting B Tron to the Dragons after impressing the club's recruiting department.
The Dragons' final and most impressive addition is that of Deddy who returns to the SFA after a break from the competition. The former Demon was highly sought after by several clubs but confessed that the Dragons' offer was clearly better than the rest. "It was tough decision but the Dragons' offer was just too good to refuse." said Deddy who was dressed in his new Dragons polo. "I'm excited for next season and onwards, things are really looking up at Dragon Island and I'm happy to be a part of the club here".
Southern Dragons co-captain Ljp86 also expressed his thoughts with the new additions to the playing group, "Yeah we're pretty happy getting akkaps, B Tron and Deddy to the club. The leadership group saw that Deddy had become available and we picked up on that straight away and go in touch with his management. In the end we got the deal done pretty quickly and we're very glad to have him down at the club for this coming season." The skipper also spoke about the singing of akkaps and also B Tron. "Akkaps is an up and coming star and we have high hopes for him this season. He will also be helping out the club in an administration role too and will be taking up a statistics position at the club in season 17. B Tron is a new player to the club and the SFA but he is a young gun and has impressed well at the academy and also in the junior ranks. We rate him highly and he will no doubt be a solid contributor at the club this season."
In other Dragons news, the Southern Dragons may not be known by that name for much longer with the club considering a name change for season 17. The club has expressed a desire to change its logo and club jumpers for the new season but little is known at this stage as to whether the changes will go ahead.
