Okay, idea for a game, that's not really a game, but just a bit of fun/fantasy. If it's a crap idea, feel free to say so.

Basically, choose your favourite artist (or perhaps one of your favourite artists that is touring soon eg. BDO/Laneway/QOTSA), and plan out your ideal, dream setlist for a live show.

The Rules:
1. The set must be 15 songs in length. You may choose an extra 3 songs for an encore, if you wish.
2. You must give some thought to the order of the songs. Eg. grouping 3 acoustic songs together, grouping 3 sing-along songs together etc.. Some explanations would be cool, but not required.
3. Songs can be from any release (LP, EP, single etc.), or any legitimate cover they have done (eg. Like a Version, or a well-known cover they do often).
4. You can choose any concert venue/style eg. stadium, festival, acoustic indoors etc., or just not elect any venue.

Now go forth and create!

To get things started, I'll do one for one my favourite bands, who are coming to the BDO:

Arcade Fire
Festival set

Intro:
Keep The Car Running
Reflektor

Nostalgia:
The Well and the Lighthouse
Crown of Love
Wake Up

New Album:
Here Comes the Night Time
Normal Person

Slower section:
The Suburbs
Ready to Start
It's Never Over (Oh Orpheus)
My Body is a Cage

Huge ending:
Intervention
No Cars Go
Rebellion (Lies)
Afterlife/Supersymmetry (closer of main set) - counted as one song because of the continuation of the tracks on the album. Not sure why they even split it on the album.

ENCORE
The classics:
Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice)
Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) - the ultimate Arcade Fire song.

Album breakdown:
Funeral 4
Neon Bible 5
The Suburbs 3
Reflektor 6 (Afterlife/Supersymmetry counted as one)

I've done this with Arctic Monkeys many times. I know it's a stretch but have a 25-song setlist haha. They have done 21/22 song sets once upon a time, so it's not impossible!

It's a good mix of all five albums, I left out the two singles from WPSIA but it's only because they've been done to death and replaced with two lesser appreciated songs I enjoy (You Probably Couldn't See for the Lights, and From the Ritz to the Rubble)

1. Do I Wanna Know?
2. R U Mine?
3. Teddy Picker
4. Crying Lighting
5. Fake Tales of San Francisco
6. Still Take You Home
7. The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala
8. Do Me a Favour
9. Arabella
10. This House Is a Circus
11. Love Is a Laserquest
12. Brick by Brick
13. Old Yellow Brickets
14. You Probably Couldn't See for the Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me
15. From the Ritz to the Rubble
16. My Propeller
17. Fluorescent Adolescent
18. Cornerstone
19. Piledriver Waltz
20. I Wanna Be Yours
21. Snap Out of It
22. A Certain Romance

Encore
23. The View from the Afternoon
24. Knee Socks
25. 505 (with Miles Kane)

My justification... The "Do I Wanna Know/R U Mine" opener is so good. I know they've been finishing with "R U Mine" recently and leaving "505" out of the setlist entirely... but I just feel it gets you absolutely pumped up really early. Then a collection of hits they like to play fairly early on. The old "Brick double" at the halfway point of the set. Then I reckon get Alex out the front with an acoustic guitar for "Cornerstone", "Piledriver Waltz" and "I Wanna Be Yours". A mini-set. Then "Snap Out of It", quite literally, before finishing on "A Certain Romance" - which they did at Glastonbury and hadn't done in six years I think!

Then the little encore, lead with "View" because it's such a banger and although I love it as an opening track, it couldn't displace what I have already. "Knee Socks" is a favourite of mine off the new album. And "505"... just an awesome song.

Sticking to 18 songs is so hard, especially because these bands tend to have a few albums, plenty of singles, and plenty of staples.

Vampire Weekend
. First? Their usual start. Full o' hits. Calms down for Step, right back with three heavy hitters and the extremely fun looking Song 2 cover (I always laugh at Ezra's deadpan and Baio's laughing). The end is just four songs to move to, ending on the extremely beautiful Young Lion – all for them to come out with not trustin' Hannah, onto the typical one-two goodbye of Blake (good sing-a-long, usually introduced by Rostam) and the apt Walcott (always g'day'd by Ezra's "this is a song about leaving... leaving Cape Cod... tonight...)
  1. Diane Young
  2. White Sky
  3. Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
  4. Holiday

Awesome effort. But you fail because you went over the 15+3 formula :P

From the Ritz... and You Couldn't See... are great choices from a nearly flawless album. You could pretty much just dartboard any song haha.

Never got "This House is a Circus" though. Just never liked it.

Nor did I initially, it was the only song I skipped from FWN. But then after a few more listens I really enjoyed it. You could easily replace it with If You Were There Beware, though, in my above list

I'm gonna have a crack at a Kanye set now. With the 15+3 rule. Will be nigh on impossible

Walcott as the closer = success. What a great song. Can't fault the list :)

Not enough first album haha. But I like the list a lot. What a bangin' start that would be. Hit Hit Hit Hit.

I'll have a go myself - then a democratic vote to determine the successor :)

No A-Punk! But that would be a fantastic close. Wouldn't surprise me if this was close to their Falls/Southbound setlist, if you replace White Sky or Cousins with a song off MVOTC. They'd probably finish the fifteen similar to Silent Alarm and have your start.

I could so easily change this but for some reason I did it very quickly and easily. Start big with "Power", an extended intro. Then some soulful stuff, slow it down with "Runaway" and "Everything I Am", before bringing it back in a big way with "Stronger" and "Bound 2". "Devil In a New Dress" is one of my favourite Ye songs ever, then it goes really hard with "Blood On the Leaves" (specifically the.. uh.. Instagram verse) then get a couple of friends in (2 Chainz and Jay-Z?) to help with the next two songs. Finish on "Celebration" because it really is a celebration of his best work.

Lead in the encore with "Flashing Lights" because it is a superb track, then "I'm In It" because there needs to be something loud in the encore, then "Lost In the World" because it is a beautiful closer.

1. Power
2. All Falls Down
3. Touch the Sky
4. Through the Wire
5. Crack Music
6. We Don't Care
7. Runaway
8. Everything I Am
9. Stronger
10. Bound 2
11. Devil In a New Dress
12. Blood On the Leaves
13. Mercy
14. Illest Motherf**ker Alive
15. Celebration
——————————————
16. Flashing Lights
17. I’m In It
18. Lost In the World

Hopefully I'm not "cheating" by including songs from non-solo records, but Kanye obviously had a big say in both Cruel Summer and Watch the Throne. A lot of the above he probably wouldn't play, but the best thing about music is that's my dream setlist and it probably differs to everyone else's.
I didn't purposely leave out 808s entirely, but I feel like none of the songs really fit into that set. I also wanted to include "Homecoming" from Graduation but again didn't feel like there was anywhere to put it.

Album breakdown:
College Dropout - 3
Late Registration - 3
Graduation - 3
808s and Heartbreaks - 0
MBDTF - 4
Yeezus - 3
Cruel Summer - 1
WTT - 1

Touché. Would be an excellent set either way !

So this thread's becoming quite insular and we're all having huge Saturdays, but...

14. Morning Bell

15. Paranoid Android
16. Street Spirit (Fade Out)

18. Exit Music (For A Film)

Radiohead probably wouldn't play several of these songs but would be an ideal setlist.

Definitely not cheating :)

My dream would be:

1. Dark Fantasy - as he is coming out, sets the scene. Opening track to one of the best hip hop albums ever.
2. On Sight - then BAM. Get the crowd pumping.
3. I'm In It - continue on the intense start. Keep the sounds heavy.
4. POWER - continues this theme, but brings us full circle to the opening sounds of MBDTF.

Then Kanye talks about himself. And how he is awesome.

Then we go melodic and old school:

5. Through The Wire - what else? Go where it all started!
6. Roses
7. Slow Jamz
8. Touch the Sky - this would be incredible with everyone getting into it.

Then the big hits from mid-career, to keep the crowd on this high note:

9. Stronger
10. Good Life
11. Homecoming

And then a singalong to finish, with particular crowd favourites:

12. Jesus Walks - starting chronologically.
13. Gold Digger - with full Ray Charles "I Got A Woman" introduction please!
14. Gorgeous
15. Black Skinhead. LOUD. GOD. GOD. GOD!

---------

For the encore, I have to pick my top 3, not sure on the order, though it doesn't really worry me.

Probably would start with "Blood on the Leaves".

Then "Runaway" - favouritest Rap song ever. Oh, and make it the 10 minute version please.
And then "Hey Mama" - so beautiful. Wouldn't care which was 2nd last and which was last. Either way would leave happy.

Album breakdown:

College Dropout - 3
Late Registration - 4
Graduation - 3
MBDTF - 4
Yeezus - 4

As above, not sure how 808s would fit into this truncated setlist. If had to pick some, "Amazing" and "Paranoid" would probably be the first two picked.
