How does dream team work? Is supercoach the same thing? I have only ever done the tipping, and have no idea how to participate in these other games.

Can someone point me to an explanation of these?

The Aurion V6 AFL Dream Team is a fun and exciting interactive competition, the premise being simple. You play coach and selector, and you get the opportunity to take part in the AFL Premiership for Season 2008 by selecting and entering your very own "Dream Team".

You select the real players, and based on their real, actual performances each Round, your selected players and team score points according to each player's comprehensive, individual stats. Stats are entered and processed soon after the completion of each Round's games. You team is then ranked, depending on the game, against your friends and relatives within your own League, and against everyone else playing in the Aurion V6 AFL Dream Team!
afl.virtualsports.com.au for more info. The 2009 Dreamteam should open early this month

Dreamteam and Supercoach are different competitions that use different statistics to score players. Supercoach uses more advanced statistics to theoretically produce a more accurate reflection of a player's contribution.

I play Supercoach.

You are competing against other people so one isn't necessarily harder than the other. But the two comps value different things, so one's tactics would change depending on which one you are playing.

Dreamteam is purely based on quantity of stats whereas supercoach is based on effectiveness of stats. For example, Andrew Carazzo is a superb dreamteamer as he accumulates an impressive amount of possessions, however his use is not always first class. Therefore is a better player for dreamteam. Someone like lindsay gilbee, who is an amazing user of the ball, is a much better supercoach prospect. For a beginner, DT is definitely the way to go, as points are based on a much more simple system than supercoach.

Thanks for that. Might have a go at Dreamteam first, see how it goes.

I find supercoach harder than dreamteam for some reason, though I think supercoach is better because of the hard ball get statistics used.

Simon Black = awesome for supercoach, so/so for dreamteam.

Supercoach puts more value back into your rucks, forwards and backs than dreamteam, which is all about midfielders.

If you have the time I would play both.

There is nothing to lose and you can compare straight away.

They are different scoring formats but both basically demand a mixture of seasoned players and speculative improving types who can fit under the salary cap.
