I'm worried about booze being the difference in the performance of our team.

I mean it worries me when our bloody captain binge drinks half way through a week.

If you took 2 teams and made one do as they liked and the other one sober or maybe 2 drinks a week, and lined em up against each other, which team would win?

I reckon the latter would win by 6 goals.

Don't let that get to you smasha. If we were all privy to the naked truth about what players actually get up to and when I am sure we would all collectively be shaking our heads. The events of the past year, Cousins, Carey, Mainwaring, Johnston etc etc have got me thinking that nothing would shock me now. What we don't know wont hurt us is the approach by the looks.

what rubbish, if they are physically effected yes but if they have a few to many on a wed before a friday game it would make no difference at all. All this talk about the binge drinking scourge is just political trickery to divert our attention from other more seriouse issues.

Maybe the players are dehydrated from spending too much time in tanning salons with Terry

That's really bad mate.:D

I wouldn't be posting much if that is all I could come up with.

Lame as your team.

Speaking of drinking problems ,look at Fev in the last quarter.

Can't hardly breathe.

Dumbest player in the AFL.

What was he doing pointing to his tatt the other night?

A complete wanka-fits Carlton to a tee.

lol did u see fev the other night? moved onto the wing and after one play we was spitting everywhere, hands on knees puffing as all hell:o...got me thinking where he would be without all those late night brawls and piss ups:D:D;)

Um what happened to the fact that these are professional athletes or at least are paid to behave like they are professional athletes. There should be no drinking or late nights during the season. It should be six months on and six months off. No ifs or buts. I bet the teams who adopt this policy are more successful than the ones who dont. It probably goes a lot to explaining the strength and conditioning staff at Richmond. I can't believe the size of the players who have been in the system for three years. It's just not good enough.

Binge drinking half way through a week? Did i miss something

surely not, unless you have been in isolation for the past few weeks.

Kane Johnson pissed on the side of a st kilda police station right next to his home after a big night out few days after the blues win. he was also celebrating his birthday ... he suspended himself for the roos game and was fine like $5,000.

tell me you knew that .........

I think his problem was "Half way through a week" when it was on a weekend.

thats a long bow to draw and exactly which players are undersized and compared to who? Homer Simpson

Correct.

And Bazzar's right - a few drinks for your birthday on a Saturday night is not "binge drinking halfway through a week".

Hysteria? Over-reaction? Media hype to sell a few papers? Political hype to win a few votes? All of the above.

It was interesting to see the team without Johnson yesterday, personally I thought it might be a good thing but it appears his experience, leadership and (on-field) discipline are maybe more important than some of us think.

What? If you were told you were going to be paid over $100,000 a year plus endorsements to keep fit and not drink for six months of the year you think that would be unreasonable? Obviously a number of Richmond players think so. How is Richmond expected to be competitive when their key position players are not big enough to take the field. Thursfield, Moore, McGuane, Hughes all fall into this category.

but are they small compared to other players there age, i dont think so. You always cast a much more critical eye over our players then players from other teams seems like you suffer from a grass is always greener syndrome. Thursfield did a knee and has played less then 20 games I think he is hardly a seasoned veteren. The rest are under 21 I think hardly good examples and in comparison to who of the same age?

I've had enough of the puritans spouting the non drinking cause go back to bible school I say were they can all agree with each other. The government loves it at the moment because it is politically smart, they have replaced the fear of terrorists with health issues to keep there views in the public eye.

Cheers

Were all these 'positive traits' of Johnson's important every other time the Roos beat us?

Nope.

In Johnson's time at the club we've been beaten by them by an average margin very close to yesterday's.

Case closed IMO. He's made bugger all difference in the past and yesterday would have been no different. He wouldn't have attracted a tagger, there wasn't any one star individual worth him tagging, and his clearances typically have no quality. He MAY have laid a few extra tackles in the centre and made them stick (highly unlikely unless he could 'sandbag' opponents when they were already on the ground), but considering they DOUBLED our clearances, it would have made a very negligible difference.

Don't disagree with you Rayo, but I'd like to think that we're a better team now than last year and the year before, etc - that we're on the improve. I reckon that the growing kids we've got may still need just a bit of nursing.

But as I said, I was happy to see us play without Johnson, and will be even happier when I can be confident that his omission will only make us stronger.

i doubt anyone who writes here has ever trained or competed in any sport at an elite level and so dont really know what your talking about
