Just called the Licensing centre then, to check if there were any cancellations. There were none, the earliest date I can go for my second phase is September 10.
The call operator said they had 30,000 calls regarding the drivers assessment test.

At least I know I'm not the only one who is pissed off at the government.

you're really gunna be pist when the drinking age is raised.

Failed mine for the first time today.
Worst day ever. Spewing because now I have to go for the red Ps, rather than the green ones.
It was so wierd, don't want to sound up myself but I think I am a very good driver. Just that as soon as the tester walked into the car, my feet wouldn't stop shivering, lol. It was ridiculous. My palms got sweaty on the steering wheel too. I haven't had that feeling since VCE exams last year.

I always thought I performed well under pressure, guess that was a bit of a reality check.

Ever since I rebooked it, I've been on the net searching of ways to calm nerves, but I think that this initial fail is just going to make me nervous next time.

D-Day : July 26th:thumbsd:

Who the hell fails a driving test? Easiest thing in the world to pass.

Note, if you have a tightass tester then I can understand.

Got my new Plates in the mail. This sucks! I have had my license for one month and a half...So another 4 and a half on stupid red P's which mean no driving between 12 and 5. This is so shit. Plus no alchohol is allowed in your system, so now us P-Plate drivers can't even have one drink over the night...

new system wont affect me, i got my new green P-plates a few weeks back, the letter that came with it clearly said in bold writing do not put these up til july 1st.....ive seen sooooo many drivers with the green plates up already, how stupid can you be.

not sure how it works in other states but in victoria as of the 1st of july:
*red plates for 1st year drivers with 1 passenger ages between 15-21 i think
*years 2,3 and 4 you get green plates which the current rules apply im pretty sure

You might actually want to read the letter...

The old rules still apply for you.

Stage 1= red plates
Stage 2= green plates

Going for my P's this Saturday.

I had a question regarding switching lanes. I was with a driving school which told me that in any given time you must always be on the left lane unless overtaking. I then had lessons with a different school who said that it's recommended to be on the left lane but not compulsory, hence implying that I could still drive on the right lane without losing points. Anyone wanna fill me in?

Any tips other than the previous mentioned would be helpful.

Cheers

It's only not compulsory when the speed Limit is less then 80 km then you may drive in the right hand lane, well thats the rule in my state (tas ). Apart from that, keep left unless overtaking

Hope your test went well

And the rules in Tasmania regarding obtaining a manual license changed recently whereby you may now obtain a manual licence by merely requesting it, so long as you have driven an automatic for a set period. No need to set any special test to get it

Just relax and take it easy. You can do it! I did a massive skid in the rain on mine, so I thought I'd failed. But he passed me! First time as well.

I can't believe how ____ed it is to get a license now.

Different coloured P's? Surely you're havin a laugh?

Yeah it's pretty screwed.

The new licensing scheme in SA is pretty good though, with the P2 stage and all, means I can drive without displaying P plates :thumbsu:

Got my test brought forward from Sep. 10 to Aug. 27. Small consolation, still means I have to wait until late February if I pass.

In the meantime, I'll keep hassling them every single day to see if I can get it any closer.

Ok.....words cannot describe how happy I am at the moment.

Taken from the DPI website

Learner Drivers who were issued their Learners permit before June 29 2008 will fall under the ‘old system’ and will NOT have to wait six months between passing their Practical Driving Assessment and taking the Hazard Perception Test. They will only have to do 25 hours of supervised driving and be a minimum age of 17 before completing the Hazard Perception Test.

Learner drivers who were issued a Learners Permit after June 29 will be on the new system and can only undertake a Hazard Perception Test (HPT) once a minimum of 6 months has elapsed since they passed their Practical Driving Assessment (PDA). Learner drivers will still be required to complete at least 25 hours of supervised driving prior to being eligible to sit the HPT.

I got my L's in December last year, meaning I don't have to wait 6 months anymore. This is the best news i've had for so long. It means I can get my license after I turn 17 in November.

Absolutely stoked!
