Simple question - Leon in or out for the next game?

I've voted IN ... but only if he gets put on the ball if he's not finding the pill in the forward line. If he's out of form due to injury then he should be dropped!

(gee it's a pain posting options with a 50 character limit - doh!)

Tend to agree. He should have a run in the middle and get some touch. He only has a couple more chances before he should be dropped. Medhurst and Dick still to come back into the team someone has to go.

Needs to dropped, playing players into form hasn't really worked that well for us in the past. The method failed with Medders last year and it took 2 years to work for Cloke.
Leon will bounce back, he just needs to know he has to earn his spot and not have it gifted to him.
The last 2 weeks his pressure has been down a bit as well so think he is really struggling. He has a combined total of five tackles, three 1%ers and one goal assist in the last fortnight which isn't enough to justify a spot considering he isn't getting a lot of the ball. Add to that his disposal efficiency was 44% last week and 66% the week before and it doesn't paint a good picture.

Just making a passing observation about leon.He has not been the same
for quite some time now, even the games we have won,i noticed a few shots in the dressing rooms, after the game he had his head hung low ,body language suggesting that he isn't remotely interested.

Don't know the problem, could be personnal, or could that fact that the media has beat him up so bad, about not performing in big games has affected him or is the poor guy injured and is not using it as an excuse.

Sad,hope the club helps him out.

I have thought the same - just seems very distant. I think we have no option but to drop him until he finds the hunger - whether helping him to sort out his problems/attitude.

Feel sorry for him as i think there is more to it - but he is a liability ATM, especially in games like geelong/stkilda where committment is required or you stand out

Yep i agree !

I selected "Other", only as he looks injured, and with no obvious replacement for him yet (Dick isn't ready, Lockyer and Barham aren't good enough) maybe give him 2 more weeks, then if he is still struggling, give him an extended rest and 1-2 games in the VFL around the seniors bye weekend.

He just didn't look fit on Friday night, you could see he was trying to chase, but couldn't.

I'd be very, very surprised if neither Lockyer nor Barham (or anyone else who may be eligible for selection from the 2s) coudn't at the very least offer as much as Leon has so far. In fact I'd be very confident that both would probably do better than Leon has. Last week we supporters were marveling at our amazing depth and how we don't need any passengers, this week we don't have anyone good enough to replace someone who would be close to our worst performing player for the year.

Good post.
Just prior to the Geelong game, I posted a defense of Leon's place in the team - based mainly on his defensive pressure. But alas, even that was missing last Friday. I can no longer defend him.

Sad - but ATM I think we can at least try some alternatives like Lockyer or Barham. They can't be any worse.

Simply put, we need to set the example that if you are not performing you will not be played. Pressure on players through our depth is a good thing.

It also helps him gain some confidence before coming back. He is far too good to play VFL and we need the old Leon back.

Went with #2, but could've easily gone with the last 2.

Even when he's not getting much of the ball/out of form, he still has the X factor about him and also his pressure can be priceless at times.

But if his form DOES continues for a few more weeks, then sure something needs to be done.

3 of those stats can be attributed to him never straying more than 55metres from goal.

Most in behinds kicked
3rd worst disposal efficiency
3rd most clangers
17th in 1% (doesn't tell the whole story as most people who have less played a couple less games)

Different stats show different things, watch him during the games and its clear that his output has been down this year.

As the club advises us that he isn't injured, do what they did last year when he was in great form and rotate him through the midfield and the forward line. I have no idea why they aren't doing it now? Why take something that wasn't broke and try and fix it?

Who comes out of the midfield to sit in the forward line whilst Davis is in there? I know Pendles is up on the HFF when O'Bree is in the team but geez he's not good there. Could possibly work if you have a 3 way rotation with Didak/Davis/Thomas, although I do like Thomas spending time in the midfield more.

Stays in until we can replace him with someone who can provide equal or better forward pressure than he can.
At the moment nobody fits that bill. Would be in some trouble if Dick or Rounds were fit though.

Still demands a quality defender as well, only a few weeks back he pulled Carlton's number 1 tagger and all he was doing was sitting in a FP.
Push him onto the flank in the role Obie has been playing and rotate a few of the young boys through the spot that opens up in the pocket.
