We all know the ones... like how they think Australia is an island "somewhere near Brazil"; a good place to go skiing in Europe; and kangaroos wander aimlessly around the Sydney CBD which is yet to get asphalt roads.

One of the best I've heard is my brother was sitting near two of them chatting on a plane. Chuck says to Hank (cue accent) "how far you gotta east until you start goin' west". Like as if you get to the edge of the world and start turning back to come around the other side.

I was on a Greyhound bus going from Portland to Denver. An American guy sitting next to me starts up a conversation with me. He asks me where I'm from and I say Australia. We keep chatting for about five minutes and then he says, "So you say you're from Australia?" "Yes" I reply. He thinks about it for a minute then says in all sincerity, "Gee your English is good. I dont agree.


If the thread was titled 'Dumb Sayings' and we all naturally took it to mean Americans then yes I think that might be racist.

But the title is Dumb American Sayings.. Perhaps implying that there are also Intelligent American Sayings, Childish American Sayings, Humerous American Sayings, Depressing American Sayings and even un-decipherable American Sayings.

Not racist at all. It's actually wuite an accurate title. If it was titled Dumb Aussie Sayings and has some dumb things that we say, would that be racist??? Or just humour?

Seems to me as though you might be on a wishlist to funkyland where you can ride the gravy train till midnight and be crowned Political Correctness Constable Timbo.
