I wonder if Dunc will be given the role of running with Harvey? Both are coming back from injury and will be unlikely to run out the whole game?

Who knows?

At least we will get to see those looping helicopter punt kicks that have been missing from our game.

Side looks better already. $31 dollars for the flag looks tempting in a 16 horce race.

And here i was thinking it looked even slower and unskilled than usual..
/Diggler Mode off

Look Dunc has been a great player but considering he has played one and a half games this year and how worn down he has become he shouldn't be rushed back into the side ahead of the likes of coughlan newman and poyas..

At least make him have a game or two in the 2s to gain some fitness and form...

i must say danny is taking a bit of a risk playing duncan without a game for coburg 1st.
i guess they are in the best position to know that he is ready and being the man duncan is he wouldnt play unless he knows he can get thru it.
you could be on the money there cjh.why not play dunc on harvey as both are well short of match practice.

for once i feel a bit for petiffer he did a few good things last week but i guess he still has to show a bit more.

cheers!

Kellaway's hardness will help: Frawley

Richmond coach Danny Frawley believes his players will run a lot taller against St Kilda at Colonial Stadium thanks to the return of the Tigers’ inspirational tagger Duncan Kellaway.

One of the AFL’s most courageous players will make his first appearance of the season following a frustrating three-and-a-half month battle with a quad injury and for Frawley his return could not come soon enough.

“That’s going to give the boys a lot of belief,” he said of the return of the 29-year-old veteran of 158 games.

“While our hardness has been terrific the last couple of weeks, we’re a hell of a lot harder when number three (Kellaway) runs out with us.’

“He certainly does (make the other players run taller) and he has been sorely missed by not only the players but by the coaches because he just goes out there and does a job and he really does give us a lot of stiffness around the ball.”

While Kellaway has proven himself one of the AFL’s most disciplined taggers and he is universally admired for his unflinching approach to the game, injuries have caught up with him in recent seasons.

After having already fought his way back from two knee re-constructions, his 2002 season never got a chance to get started after he tore his quad in mid January.

“We have taken a softly approach with him this last time because it’s been really frustrating,” Frawley said of Kellaway’s long battle to overcome his latest nagging complaint.

“It’s been nearly three and a half months since he first injured his quad but it’s just been one of those things that has been bad luck more than anything else.”

The return of Kellaway adds further momentum to the recent revival at Tigerland which has seen last year’s preliminary finalists win their past two matches to be outside the top eight on percentage only.

And following on from those hard-fought wins over Sydney and West Coast, Frawley has called on his side to ensure it does not slip-up against the injury-riddled Saints – who have been winless since the opening game of the season.

“This game is going to be played in the mind,” he said.

“We’ve turned the corner to a certain degree, we’re still not out of the woods yet.’

“If you look at the upsets in recent weeks, if you’re five per cent off the money you are going to struggle so that is our big challenge as a group to make sure we bring our best form to the table tomorrow night.”

country cliches

What a load of crap does frawley come out with. The players will run taller with DK in the side. Does that mean Rodan will be 6 foot tall tomorrow night? More self belief, because of DK. If our players need him for self belief, we have a problem. Frawleys simple country cornball is starting to were a bit thin. The more I hear him, the more I think he should be coaching in the Ballarat league. Bring in Hooksy.

Ditto my comments again. What can i say, Frawley talks like a suburban coach. If thats what Duncan inspires the side to play like, he can pee off for good. He shouldnt be playing full stop. His skills are a disgrace and that turnover late in the 3rd quarter that cost us a goal was an embarrassment. Get rid of this unskilled hack for good and start playing a skilled youngster like Poyas.

diggler i suggest you go forth and mulitply.i bet you just watch the game and hope and prey players like duncan mess up.
sure he messed up ONCE.
did you see how many times he put his body on the line? i guess you wouldnt.
may i ask where was duncans so called better skilled players tonight hey?
tivendale, houlihan, ottens[couldnt hold a mark to save himself],cambell i could go on.but why bother.
i suggest you p*** off diggler i have had enough of your anti dk anti spud.
in fact i bet you jumped up with joy to see us lose tonight thats what i reckon someone like you would be like.

What do you expectTOO. We have not played finals 2 years in a row since 1975. Its supporters like you who put mediocre players on a pedestal and wonder why we are no good. To be beaten by a rabble like Stkilda is a disgrace. I really havent got a problem with Frawley, however his reluctance to face the facts about a few players, I find disturbing. If he doesnt make some tough descisions soon, someone else will.

mediocre players?
im assuming you mean the following players:
knights-wow 14yrs at the club and old age is catching up to him.i guess in your eyes what he has done for the club in the past means jack chit.your not a former board member of the past players committee are you?

kellaway-after saturdays effort give me 18 duncan kellaways. yes he lacks the skills however we woula have won because he has a heart or at least went down fighting.

rogers-granted his disposal lets him down but like duncan he never shirks and issue.

you havnt got a problem with danny? well i hate to see when you do.

cheers!

yes, those three have had plenty of chances and years to perform and have failed. time to move on. if you reward experienced players with selection, based on past performances, you are mediocrity. if you think those 3 will suddenly blossom into match winning, premiership players, you are dreaming.

It is not the likes of Knights, Rogers and Campbell who are holding us back - it is the next tier of players that are underperforming.

This was the thrust of Garry Lyon's article a few weeks back and one that I wholly agree with.

Pull out the stat's sheet for last Saturday night and see who was missing in action.

rewarding players a renewed contract based on loyalty to the club, not performance, will see us head in one direction:- WOODEN SPOONERS!
