OK people my DVD burner is driving me crazy.

Ive been trying to "Backup" DVD's, still without success.

I am using DVD Shrink, and the process seems to be working fine, if i save the DVD files to my hard drive they play fine.
But once i burn them to a dvd it doesnt work.

The DVD comes up as if its blank (even though its just burnt)

Could it be dodgy media? I'm trying to use Melody DVD-R

Also, what type of Media is supported by XBOX? + or - R?? RW?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

What are you using to burn the DVD files you compressed? Do you have a DVD-RW or DVD+RW? If not get yourself one and use that to work out how you do it rather than waste all your DVD's

I'm Using nero 6.3

and ive got 1 dvd-rw that im using now, but yer i did waste a few dvd-r's....

I use Nero 5, start a new compilation.

Find DVD-Video, highlight DVD-Video press new.

Now switch to Nero Express, find DVD-Video Files.

When the express DVD-Video appears click on ADD, find your files all you need are the .VOB , .BUP , IFO Files. I find 1x speed best with cheap media. That is the easiest way to produce dvd's.

I made some progress finally.. hehe i got the DVD-RW to work on my computer dvd-rom.... but doesnt work in my xbox and i have no other dvd player so im guessing the xbox aint compatible with DVD-RW

as for the DVD-R im trying, i think they must just be a crap DVD, so i'm going to have to buy a better one tomorrow to try out.

But does anyone know which DVD media are compatible with XBOX?

Ditto. Also never had any dramas with the media. Using 4X DVD-R. (Probably only cheapies too if the truth be known. $21 for 10 atm)

Nader, found this on a X-Box forum:

Thanks for the reply. It was not a pioneer DVD+R, it was some no name brand but it was highly recommended. I will save the additional $50 to get a DVD+-R/RW. They said that the brand name does not really matter, except that they really recommended Sony. The said that if I don't get a Sony (which will cost me an additional $150) then one of the no name brands will do the same job for less. I think I will stick with the DVD-R for burning DVD's for my Xbox. When I called Xbox tech support they could not give me a straight answer, they said that any DVD I burn might or might not be compatible with the Xbox. The tech guy said the same thing about audio CD's, they might or might not work.
Thanks again

Seems that it might be a case of trial an error.

not really a dumb question. unless u have a DVD burner most likely u wont have any idea.

They're just different format of media (dont ask me why theres different formats, just to make things confusing i reckon)

i think + is more for data, whereas - is more for multimedia

but theres a huge compatability issue between + and -, + wont work on a lot of dvd players etc, where as - is suppose to.. but it doesnt always work that way. It's a bloody joke if u ask me.

And to tell u the truth I'm not quite sure if theres + and - RW. RW is Rewriteable (if u dont know that already). I could be wrong (and i probably am) but i think theres only DVD-RW. However u can get DVD-R, DVD+R which aint rewritable...

No to so they are the same capacity and they are identical in what you can use them for. It all boils down to ....

Thats true to an extent. the manufacturers claim dvd- will work in about 90% of settop players, DVD+ is fixed round 80%. It really only applies to older players - my player out in my living room won't accept a dvd- disc to save itself, but its fine on +r. the player in the spare room plays anything. Because writable dvd emerged AFTER settop players hit the market, the older ones often dont support, or only partially support the formats. Generally I think PC dvd players will cope with pretty much anything.

Yeh, you are wrong :) theres dvd+rw media available. It's really just a matter of finding a brand that will work fine on your gear, and sticking with it. Go out, buy a brand of dvd-rw, and a brand of dvd+rw. See if they work, and if they do in future just buy the SAME BRANDs equivelent + or - r discs. (providing your burner can burn both...lol... theres the next can of worms to open)

I have Pioneer a DVD-R/RW and had few problems backing up stuff. PS 2 games and movies have worked. I use Nero for the PS2 games and DVD X Copy Express for movies.
Anyone else used DVD X Copy Express, which I reckon is pretty good, and what are their thoughts on it?

yeah mine has already been chipped. perhaps i shouldve mentioned that.. hehe
