Hi, I have just purchaced a DVD/HDD recorder, and have come up with some problems tuning it.
When I tune the stations in, it only seems to find the analogue stations, (no ABC2, or HD channels) Which Im guessing it is not a Digital recorder??

My plasma that I have hooked it up to doesn't need a set top box as it has it built into it already.

So when I watch a channel through the dvd recorder, its all stretched to fit the screen, like 4:3 stretched to fit 16:9.

How can I get this dvd recorder to tune in digital tv.
Am I going to need to buy a set top box for it now, or can I somehow run a coax from the antenna out on my tv into the dvd recorder?

You need to ensure it has a digital tuner in it, not an analogue one.

Anyone considering buying a DVR should ensure it contains at least two digital tuners... preferably HD tuners.

If it doesn't carry 'DVB' on it... it isn't digital. Just because the TV has a digital tuner, doesn't mean your recorder plays on the same field.

Most DVD recorders carry standard-definition digital tuners on board only, except for one.

LG make a basic model DVD recorder with an SD tuner for around $270 - $300. Models with hard drives are about $400 upwards. People that use Foxtel -- IQ or not -- can take advantage of Panasonic, Sony or Pioneer recorders as they all carry SCART inputs. Hard copies of Foxtel programs can be recorded with S-Video or RGB quality.

The one recorder that does better is Panasonic's DVD recorder with dual HD tuners and a 500GB HDD, which is around $1000. It downscales HD recordings to be compatible with DVDs.

They also have a BluRay version of the same machine, which doesn't need to downscale HD recordings. Also has an edit function, where you can cut out the ads before burning it to a BluRay disc.

Only problem with it I gather is these burned BluRay recordings do not play on non Panasonic BluRay machines.
