Hey, can someone fix this problem for me?

I have a DVD recorder with a hard drive. A football game is saved on to the hard drive and a friend wished to have this football game. Now to fit it all on one disk I bought a dual layered disk to dub it on. This worked succesfully and I watched the game on the DVD on my DVD player recorder.

However when I gave it to him he was unable to watch it on his two players or computer and i since have not been able to watch it on my computer?

Is this problem only due to the dual layered disk or is their some kind of protection on the recorder which puts some kind of weird codec on it?

If I record it onto two single layered disks will it work?

probably need to finalise the disc - look in your user manual

Thought this the appropriate forum to pose my question.

Iv recently purchased a new Samsung HDD/DVD recorder to work with my digital televison and have been experiencing problems with the recording.
Some of the programs i have recorded skip frequently which is very frustrating (the indigenous allstars game i recorded a couple of weeks back is virtually unwatchable). I went back to JB Hi-Fi and they told me to bring it back and replace it but i have a feeling it might be the feed coming through my digital tv. The reception on the recorded programs is sometimes good and sometimes very ugly - maybe something to do with weather patterns? I have no clue.

Has anyone else experienced problems with recording and if so, did they get their recorder replaced or their tv antennae fixed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Digital TV is usually pretty good, the only time i've seen it skip is in the country and that was about at 90% which is really bad reception. If it skips when you're not recording and just watching normally then its the reception if it doesn't then its the DVD recorder. I doubt getting a new one will work thou sometimes the cheap dvd recorders struggle to keep up.

Was going to say pretty much the same thing, although in my area we get mixed digital tv reception (partly due to tv/antenna location AND STB). Foxtel / general FTA digital in the family room is excellent, my mum's smaller tv for the kitchen bench (has it on while cooking) gets mixed results - channel 7 & 9 glitches up quite often (random freezing, high pitched noises when that occurs etc). My pc digital capture card is good, but the reception varies (especially for 10 and SBS) depending on how much dust is around (as it's a small room, it gets dusty faster, thus needing to clean it off the rabbit ears aerial for better results).

My HDTV dvd/hdd recorder has good results (depending on rabbit ear aerial placement). If i want SBS to show (albeit with random glitching/pausing throughout) i've got to have the rabbit ears flat even (but it ruins 7, 9, 10). If i want the regular channels i have to keep the rabbit ears at the standard V shape.

But yeah as the poster above replied, if it's happening as you're recording the program to the hdd, there's a good chance it's just your reception and try different aerial placing.

One of my older dvd/hdd recorders did something similar, no matter where i placed the aerial - the audio would drop out every couple of minutes on Ch 10.

Yeah channel 7 is notoriously bad for some reason.

Its hard to distinguish the real cause of the problem cause i'll be watching a program live while it is recording and il notice a tiny flicker in the picture which is'nt that distracting or noticeable, but its there. But then i'll check the recorderd version and every tiny flicker that occured has escalated into a full blown glitch (high pitched sound included); sometimes freezing the whole screen.

I think it may be a combination of the positioning of my aerial and the ability (or disability) of my HDD/DVD recored to cope with breaks in transmission. Also iv noticed the skipping occurs mainly during primetime (i.e 7.30pm-10.30pm) which might be my antennae adjusting to the drop in temperature. Its ironic as this is the time period i do most of my recording:mad:.

Hopefully i can get it sorted before the start of the AFL season.
