Top priority at seasons end in my opinion, get rid of the entire coaching staff and replace then with people who can get the job done, as this group have clearly run out of ideas, as exhibited at the weekend.

Why would they go into the match with Blake, Playfair, King, Ottens and Mooney and have Rooke running around in the reserves, this notion that stacking the forward line with talls is going to produce the desired results is obviously wrong, it had no bearing in our victory over Brisbane, and at the weekend it was a loser all day. If Thompson truly believes putting King or Blake in the goalsquare is our best option then he clearly needs to rethink his policy.

The forward line has been a shambles for ages, and shows no signs of getting better, starting Mooney as a loose man in defence certainly did nothing to help on Sunday either.
As has been pointed out, not all the blame can be laid at Thompson's door, as a number of players have had down seasons, but from team selections to moves made on match day, Thompson and the coaching staff have proven themselves inadequate on a number of occasions, and I see no reason to believe it will get any better next year, and winning six of our last nine is meaningless when the season was shot long before that.

If, as thehoff says, Costa will honour Thompson's contract next year, and I feel he may be correct there, then I think we should start looking forward to 2008, as I fear that 2007 will offer nothing much to get excited about with a group of people in charge who have demonstrated they simply don't have what it takes to lift us to the ultimate goal.

Why should we wait for 2008 and endure another year of empty promises and limp excuses?

If they won't act perhaps the members should.

The last thing we want to do is become another Richmond or Carlton and hold demonstrations demanding sackings, etc...

Fair enough.

But given your previous comment The buck has to stop somewhere, something has to change...

Oh i agree something has to change, but its not our decision unfortunately, its up to the powers that be. As members of course we are able to contact the club and voice our opinions privately, but i would hate the situation for example where petitions are signed, groups are formed, etc...

We may have to agree to disagree but I believe that the members are "the powers that be" I also believe that the members have the right to effect change when they come to the conclusion that those they elect to run things are no longer listening to them or acting in their Club's best interests. And wasting yet another year because we are too polite to do anything other than express our views in private is not acting in the Club's best interests.

How this is done is important, and there is no need to denigrate people who have made a tremendous contribution to the Club in the process. You cite Richmond and Carlton as poor examples (although surely you're not suggesting that Carlton members were wrong to act?). Perhaps a better example is Collingwood - no petitions, no demonstrations, no dramas because the incumbent Board cared enough about their Club to realise that it was time to let a new team drive the Club forward and so supported the McGuire takeover, thus ensuring a strong and united Club.

I'm not a dummy spitter, so I'll be there next year whatever. But I'm longing for a year when September is a better month for Cats supporters than March. And sooner rather than later!
