Traded Dylan Stephens [Traded with #25 to North for #44 and F-EoF]

It is Stevie J talking Dylan Stephens on MMM today. 1:11:50 in. Take that for what it's worth.

'He will be representing the Kangaroos in 2024'

Normally these threads descend into sh!tfights between supporters of the two teams involved. In this one, North and Sydney fans are meh, and it is others coming in looking for drama with panto talk of first rounders, psd, deals with McKay compo, etc.
I think he's worth pick 2 tbh

Swans and Bombers have plenty of room in their cap to ensure they don't have to be nutting out trades with North. For the sake of say 250k (I've seen it mentioned due to McKay being underage he only needs around 740-750k) it doesn't make sense to give up any trade collateral. The reason clubs target free agents like this as opposed to players simply out of contract is the appeal of the word "free". Any club in the race will want this deal done and signed off by the AFL before trade week kicks off so they can focus on other deals with their picks intact.
You're not reading it properly. The suggestion isn't the Swans giving up trade collateral, its them gaining a better return on the trade for Stephens by giving McKay a higher contract to ensure that North gets better free agency compensation.

Of course it relies on McKay taking unders to go to Sydney. And that unders being enough to make Band 1 questionable.

I'm reading it properly, I'm just under the impression Sydney offering less than band one dollars is less likely than they already have and then some.

Swans have been dealing with McKay for months, Stephens told the Swans yesterday he was out. I just can't fathom how the deals co-exist (and that's with two other teams in the equation).

Its not that complicated.

McKay nominates Sydney on a contract worth 700-750k a year.
North look at it and think maybe its not enough to get pick 3
North tell Sydney if they sweeten the McKay by 100K a year to guarantee band 1 we will pay overs for Stephens with pick 16.
Sydney agree.

Spin it whatever way you want we aren't giving up pick 16 for an OOC fringe player.

No, it's not complicated, I just don't believe for a second Sydney have offered under band 1 dollars for McKay already.

He's no lachie weller!

Actually I'm just angry North aren't going to throw money at Riley Bonner so Port can get some first round compo. He might be pretty bad, but he's a better kick than Stephens. Oh well.
As Kerry Packer once famously said: "You only get one Lachie Weller in your lifetime and I've had mine"

Dunno what to make of Dyl. Disappointed a top 5 pick didn't work out. Whelmed that he's leaving. Could be a good player if given a spot and time, I guess. It's just hard to say where his best spot is. Theoretically has all the abilities for a good winger, outside of consistently good disposal which is kind of crucial. Apparently, he wanted to play more inside but doesn't really have the explosive pace or strength to play there at the moment.

All that said, I'm just a random who can only watch on TV and read Bigfooty rumors. You'd assume North had a plan for him that he could see himself doing, so it will be interesting to see his role there.

Mcinerny and Gulden are far better wingman

Is Ben McKay worth band 1 money?

Devils advocate... is it possible his disposal gets a bit of an unfair cop? Genuine question.

I think of Ed Langdon and Lachie Hunter as being pretty handy wingers, and their kicking efficiency is very much in the same ballpark as Stephens. They all have almost the exact same disposal/turnover ratio too.

North had a serviceable winger in Sam Gibson who ran all day and had questionable disposal. If Stephens has a similar career at North then we will have done ok.

It's his decision making also, terrible once he gets near the backline.
I like the guy too...being a Sydney/Norwood supporter

Just walk him to the pre season draft like they should have done with CCJ

West Coast will pick him up. Meets a need there.

Possible Dyl is being asked by WCE now.

Whoever picks him up will get a decent player.
