e-AFL Round 2 - West Coast v Sydney at Optus Stadium

Welcome to this Round 2 clash of BigFooty's very own, inaugural 2020 e-AFL Premiership Season. With the real season in limbo, our team will be recreating the terminated AFL season in a series of simulated games over the coming weeks, in a jam-packed, action-filled series of 153 games plus a finals series.

These are simulated games, using the names of AFL players, but all teams have an equal chance. There is as much hope for Suns supporters as there is for the West Coast fans of a premiership at the end. There is no home ground advantage, and the weather conditions are random but do affect the type of game.

The sim program also gives votes towards a Brownlow Medal for each game, which will be compiled and a winner announced during finals.

With so little else on, sit back and cheer your e-AFL team to victory.

For all the people new to Qooty, the simulation does have its quirks.
  • There are no ball-ups or boundary throw ins
  • A line of text often carries over after the siren to the next quarter. But in the final quarter, it doesn't matter if the ball is in the air when the siren sounds, the game ends.
  • It is not impossible to kick a goal from the wing
  • Brownlow votes are generated by the program, and stored off-site to be revealed at end-of season.

“Leo Barry, you star,” Stephen Quartermain. 2005 Grand Final

The perfect summation of the conclusion to Sydney’s drought-breaking 2005 premiership. The Swans were holding on for dear life in an effort to end a 72-year premiership drought when a long ball from West Coast’s Dean Cox headed into attack. As Leo Barry came in from the side to take the game-saving mark, Stephen Quartermain almost breathlessly said: “One last roll of the dice ... Leo Barry, you star! The longest premiership drought in football history is over.” And the following year when West Coast got revenge on the Swans by one point, Anthony Hudson’s call was almost as good: “Who would have thought the sequel would be as good as the original?”

leobarryustar we can relive some moments.
We were sitting in my friends pub watching with 1000 other people when this happened. I’ve never seen a whole room collectively burst into tears before...from both teams!
What a rivalry we had then :D

I was crammed into the Gaslight Pub on Crown St. He pulled that mark down, the pub just erupted. There was no way I could hear that commentary, only later when I bought the DVD. Would have loved to have gone to that game, but I was young and broke. I made it to 2012 though (and 2014 but we won't talk about that).

Its been a while but I think the first question by the boundary rider to Leo after the siren was "Did you even think about punching it away?"

It was one of the all time greatest rivalries. I think at one stage the score difference between the two team was 12 points over 7 matches or something.

I'm going to enjoy watching West Coast beat a Sydney team with all those club greats bought in.

^^^^

What a dreary bunch of plodders Barrybran has knocked together. At least some are the first WCE players to have won an asterisk free Premiership.

The rivalry still exists tho not with the intensity of the 05-07 period.

Oddly enough the Bloods still do well when playing WCE in the West.

I spent the 05 Granny in a pub in Clarendon St. I'd given my ticket away (I still consider myself a jinx). The pub and most of Sth Melbourne went absolutely bonkers with all of us in tears of a joy many thought we'd experience. Of course I went next year and we were rolled by a miserable point (proving I am a jinx).

Old Farts ! Ha Ha ! Skilton & Kelly would beat this team by themselves.

That is one of my favourite images from that period of rivalry. Always felt a bit concerned for the chubby bloke being teased after that incident.

Mickey O was an incredibly passionate player. That displayed it
I loved Mickey O, I loved all the players then.
Well love/hate.
