I am in the latter stages of writing a book about the old AFC Night Series from 1979-1986 and need some assistance with some missing records for the section which will include an A-Z list of players who played in the competition.

Can anyone assist with the local club that the following players were recruited from:

John Belotti 1985 (Which GNFL club?)
Graham Melrose

Sounds like EF have some long term injuries - HMarsh 12 weeks, Eardley 4 weeks, Montubaun 6 weeks, Boekhorst not available till round 7 and O'Reilly unknown.

Joyce available this week, no doubt with English and RMcGuire in the mix. Tassone a few more reserves games under his belt. Be keen to see Koen Sanchez get a crack sooner rather than later. Talented sort who was unlucky to miss out on getting drafted.

Unsure of the availability of the likes of speedster in Walker and BMcGuire. Can't see any injury list on the club website, so hopefully not too far away.

I thought Melrose was from Willeton JFC but don't know for sure

Looked on a WA Hall of Fame site re Melrose - played juniors in the East and South Fremantle junior zone, before the family relocated to the suburb of Palymra. Perhaps touch base with the Palymyra Footy club?

As for Johnny Bellotti, think Chapman Valley or Railways was where he played his junior footy before coming to EF back in the 80's. Might need to check with them though for confirmation.

Sorry I can't provide any definite info mate. Good luck with the book.

Geez Murphy can't take a trick, as can't Walker to. Good to see a time line on O'Reilly, but who knows what will happen to him during that expected 4 week lay off.

HMarsh 12-weeks is a huge loss
Might need to get JMarsh in the midfield more from time to time in his brothers absence. Can see one out of Teakle or RMcGuire spending some time forward, allowing JMarsh some midfield minutes. Joyce coming back will be crucial and English too. Jansen will no doubt spend more time in the midfield as well.

I really hope Monaghan gives Sanchez a go in Montubaun's absence. Really think this kid is a talent....as is Jack Cocking too. Cocking is nearly 190 cm, has a good footy brain and coming from the GNFL, been playing against bigger bodies since he was 16/17 years old.

Be interesting to see how Boekhorst goes on his return. Definitely need some outside zip, especially with BMcGuire and Walker both out.

Big ins v claremont

Ins Jack COCKING, Joshua CRIPPS, Luke ENGLISH, Tom JOYCE, Reuben MCGUIRE, Ben MCGUIRE
Outs Corey HOLMES, Kale PATON
Joyce and English definitely big ins for EF. Also BMcGuire for some leg speed, and obviously RMcGuire for his height, mobility and versatility.

Outstanding full time effort v claremont. We looked like last year's team.
Was total football, backs kicking goals, forwards in the back half.
Joyce started off similar to Murdock but faded a bit.
Looked like they tried about five different players with a hard tag on Murdock starting with former AFL player
then went to a first gamer. Didn't work. Lots of the ball and 18 tackles.

Feeling pretty good right now

Great team effort for sure mate. Any win v Cl on their home turf, especially a 90 pt win is a good result. JMarsh will take the plaudits, but it really was a team effort. Great to see Cl didn't get a sniff at any stage during the game.

Hopefully EF can bring the same intensity and accuracy from the Cl game into next week's clash with WCER. Complacency is always a worry, especially since the minimum expectation is a percentage booster when playing WCER. I see Ryan could be available next week, exciting sort, who has been plagued by injury.

The reserves played a shocker and got duly punished for it.....Can't see any ins after that performance, bar Tassone perhaps. The colts came home in the last to nearly pip Cl. Though Cl had outplayed EF for 3 quarters to deserve the win.

The Demons recruiters have done it again
You can firmly mark Judd McVee down as yet another Melbourne recruiting masterstroke. The young West Australian, who enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, continues to take strides across half-back and has now entrenched himself as one of the club's most important players. Recruited with the 16th selection in the 2021 rookie draft, McVee was outstanding in quietening the raucous Adelaide Oval atmosphere in the early stages of Thursday night's win over the Crows. He had 11 disposals in the first quarter alone and finished with 20 touches to go with four marks, 10 intercepts and four score involvements. – Riley Beveridge

McVee is certainly one of those quiet achievers. Stephen May mentioned some where that McVee is highly regarded within the Melbourne defence and footy club. He stated McVee played like he had 300 games under his belt, when he was in his first season at Melbourne.

Couple of decent ins for WCER for Sundays game.....Flyin Ryan makes his first appearance in a while, exciting sort, can cause a lot of mischief in a short space of time. Will be on managed minutes but great for WCE and the WAFL to have a talent like Ryan back playing footy. Culley and Sheed will be better for the run v SF. Whilst Hall and Dewar are progressing well.

EF will need to bring the same intensity and accuracy from the Cl game for their battle v WCER. Complacency will be EF worst enemy, as every WCER game of late is usually penned in as a % booster. Hopefully Bill has the team focused that every team on its day, can win in the WAFL.

Can't see any ins, unless injury has hit EF on the training track this week. Perhaps Tassone might get a look in and young Cripps. Can see Bill backing in youngsters Zadow and Dunscombe for their 3rd game on the trot. BMcguire, Joyce and English will be better for their Cl efforts. JMarsh could easily ho 1.7 this weekend after his 7.1 effort last weekend. Hopefully Mad Dog can back up his Cl effort, plus be nice to see Leggett kick a few as well.

Not much movement on the WAFL injury hub, not sure the clubs even bother to update them anymore. Meade is available after a 2 week suspension from EF scratching v SD. With the bye coming up, EF could be 2/1 and in the five with a healthy %, if they beat WCER on Sun. The likes of Eardley, O'Reilly and Boekhorst closer to a return. Some good contests post bye v SD and EP on the horizon.

Opening date announced for East Fremantle Community Park

An opening date has been announced for the highly anticipated $32 million revamp of the East Fremantle football oval and surrounding local space.
May 9 has been pencilled in as the day the East Fremantle Community Park — formerly the East Fremantle Oval project — will open the bulk of its facilities.
The on-site cafe will open even sooner than the recreation spaces, with a slated start date of April 30

While still a semi-construction site, Belgravia Leisure State manager Rohan Gunton told PerthNow this week he was excited to see the area coming to fruition.

“It’s one of the few building projects that I’ve been involved with and it’s actually run on schedule,” he said.

“I’ve watched it from the old East Fremantle football facilities being demolished and then these new facilities rising out of the ground.

“Now all the landscaping is going in, it’s really starting to take shape and really looks like quite an impressive facility.”

After 17 months of construction, it is set to open with a 1000sqm health club, bowls and croquet facilities, basketball court, enclosed dog park, skate zone, playground and cafe space.

The park has been backed by the Town of East Fremantle, the State Government, East Fremantle Football Club, the East Fremantle Bowls Club, Croquet Club and funding from Lotterywest — with Belgravia Leisure appointed as its operator.

Mr Gunton said the cafe and restaurant Carnaby’s would operate seven days a week for patrons — with an agreement with Gesha Coffee Co already signed with the venue. It’s hoped the restaurant and function space can also be ready for a May 9 opening.

“In terms of the food, it will be a modern Australian cafe pub-style menu with a focus on fresh and local produce,” he said.

“And we’ll have quite an extensive selection of local beer and wines available.

“It’s going to be a very family friendly venue.”

Town of East Fremantle mayor Jim O’Neill said the park delivered on an exciting vision for the district.

“We’ve created a central community hub focused on connecting the community to physical and social activities, whether it be a social catch-up with friends for lunch or to watch a game, becoming a member of the leisure club or simply enjoying the grounds walking the dog,” he said.

“We hope that East Fremantle residents and community groups will call this facility ‘home’ with a meeting place focus

The centrepiece will be the first fenceless WAFL “open oval”, allowing the green space to be for community use as well as for the returning East Fremantle Sharks to play and train at.

Dear Members, Sponsors and Fans,

We are writing to inform you of an important update regarding our first game at the new facility at East Fremantle Oval, which was initially scheduled for May 11.

Our Club was advised this morning by the Town of East Fremantle that they will be unable to provide a satisfactory playing surface in time due to continued issues with the grass.

Like you, we are frustrated and disappointed.

Some parts of the oval have experienced slower than expected growth which has meant the overall grass coverage of the oval is not where it needs to be to meet the WAFL and WAFLW requirements. Player safety and the long-term sustainability of the oval is paramount and it’s critical that the playing surface meets the necessary standards before any games are played.

Despite this setback, we are pleased to inform you that the venue itself is ready for use. Our Club's administration is on track to move into the new facility in the coming weeks, which marks a significant milestone in our transition.

It's important to note that project delays, such as the one we are currently facing, are not uncommon in the current environment. We have been working diligently with the Town of East Fremantle and despite best efforts to meet the May 11 deadline, the unforeseen issues with the playing surface have necessitated a postponement.

The Town of East Fremantle have advised us of the target date for the practical completion of the playing surface, aiming for June 14. This sets the stage for our first game at the new facility on June 29, and we are looking forward to them meeting that milestone.

The Club is exploring all options to safeguard against any potential financial impact resulting from this delay.

We are actively working on alternatives for our upcoming home games and we will provide further updates on these arrangements.

We appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support during this period of transition. Please stay tuned for further updates and announcements as we navigate through these challenges together.

It has been a promising start to both Men’s and Women’s campaigns, and we are fully focused on getting behind our teams. We ask you to support the players and your Club as we navigate this season of transition.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication to the East Fremantle Football Club as we stay united for the Blue & White.

No surprises TBH.....obviously a Town Council decision, frustrating for the club, especially financially. It is what it is I guess, wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't another delay.

Pretty good side named for the WCER match. Tassone is back, unlucky for Dunscombe, but no doubt the taste of some league footy will only encourage the kid to want some more.

WCER on paper look to have their strongest line up for a while. Another 1 or 2 to drop back, though the WCE game is only a few hours after the WCER game, so WCE might hold one back in case of any injury sustained in the warm up.
