Eberts overall contribution last year was greater than Dangerfields this year!

Dangerfield has had one exceptional game and the rest have been serviceable. Ebert last year had a couple of exceptional games, including v Adelaide.

If Crows fans want to get excited about having "made the right choice" based on a mid who gets a lot of handball receives, runs fast but only averages 13 possessions a game in a high possession game plan, then all the best to them.

Hahaha you have no idea. First of all, this year has only been going for 7 rounds. How you can make a comparison to 2008 only you will ever know...

Handball receives? Are you kidding me? Dangerfield is leading the club for contested possessions and I have NEVER seen someone dive on the ball, then have the ability to stand up and get a handpass or kick off after being tackled, more so than Dangerfield does.

Marking ability? Now you're REALLY clutching at straws mate...haha

Before taking cheap shots, get your facts right, or at least maybe watch a crows game?

Pretty sure you started the slanging by coming on here and saying the Crows made the right decision in drafting Dangerfield over Ebert, obviously intimating that Dangerfield is the superior player. Way to early to make a judgement on who is better, in the mean time how about you **** off.

First off, I was providing a reasonable summary of the position. There was no cheap shot.

Dangerfield averages 6 contested possessions a game for Adelaide. The fact that this is the highest for your team is lamentable (assuming true). Its only marginally more than players like Fletcher & Embley for us and only half the total of a Kerr and only 60% of that achieved by our ruckman. I mean Sam Butler, who is often accused of being "outside" is almost equal with your leading contested possession winner.

But fair enough, I will concede that he is not simply a receiver - frankly at 13 possessions a game he is a low possession player in a high possession side - why is this? Why is he assumed by you to be some sort of gun when he is almost 3 possessions a game behind Ebert LAST year when Ebert was playing with OP??

My point remains, its far too early to tell.... oh that and you are a complete arseclown - feel free to post on our board anytime :D

Adelaide took Dangerfield over Ebert.

And by the looks of things so far, it is proving to be a good decision.

Interesting.

It may look that way this year but i would not get to carried away. Both have only just turned 19 and neither of them have played 20 games yet. (Ebert 18 and Danger 9) so far to early for comparisons.

But lets say you do want to go down that road. Why do you think Dangerfield was the right choice? If you look at the stats then Ebert averages more in Disposals, Kicks, Marks and Tackles for their careers to date. Or are you going on current form then yes undoubtly Dangerfield has been in better form but it is unknown how long that will last, They are kids, there form will to and fro for a few years yet.

Eberts best game has been far more impressive than anything that i have seen from Dangerfield. Dont get me wrong i like Dangerfield, he is very quick, goes hard at the football and is someone the club can build around but i know for a fact that is way to early to be comparing these players. Lets revisit this conversation in 3-5 years.

Dangerfield last i checked averaged 4 kicks a game for those 13 Disposals. The games ive seen i was impressed by his foot skills and his attack on the ball (Two of Eberts great upsides as well), he plays currently behind the ball more than on ball "from what ive seen". So again that handball stat is confusing.

Ok, haven't really seen much of the preseason, other than the Essendon game on the teev...

How has Brad been looking this preseason? Does he look to be over his OP? Bulked up? Any quicker?

Sometimes he really worries me when in possession - he seems to be in second gear out there and lack a bit of awareness...

There's a fair bit of discussion on him in the brilliant "Lessons from the Pre-season" thread and also the "NAB Challenge Vs Melbourne" thread.

Overall, I'd say he's had a good/very good pre-season. He's had quite a lot of game time, which would suggest he's not suffering too badly from niggles. Other posters have stated his speed has dramatically improved, but I can't say I've noticed that.

Thank Marlin - I'll check those threads and see what the go is.

Ebert still concerns me at times.
Although i am able to distinguish the difference of a player who is improving in certain areas and their natural habits.

I think he has played enough games to have a fair idea of the speed of the game,
but to me his decision making, while often is the right choice, is very slow and turns the footy over in simple situations,
ive noticed that opposition players often read him like a book.

I like his efforts, his demeanor, his leadership and toughness.
But i think he needs to brush up on a few things.

Hopefully with time he will improve on these areas rather than just improve in other areas enough for West Coast to warrant keeping him in the team.

Ebert still needs to bulk up more to stand up to the rigours of a tall inside mid. Once he improves his size and strenght, I really do believe he'll very similar to a Voss. I thought he'd be ahead of where he is in terms of physical development, so until he does bulk up I don't think we'll see his true potential.

Sure this will only be Ebert's 3rd season and he has spent time recovering from OP but for me other guys his age and younger have impressed me more.

TBH at the end of 2010 I won't be surprised for McGinnity to outshine Ebert. The one area where Ebert needs to improve is his goal kicking on the run. Several times I've seen him win the ball and run inside 50 only to miss from 25 - 35 meters out on a easy angle.

Here's hoping his OP did hold him back and he's over it and starts hitting really good form in 2010.

He's slim and fit. He's put on muscle, but hasn't bulked up which I think is good.

So far he has shown glimpses of poise and decision making interwoven with clangers. He's been inconsisent. Over the next 2 seasons he will have to prove himself.
