I'm not sure it's ticker. He just doesn't seem to have the instincts on when and how to go when the game is played at the level and pace of AFL seniors.

In this game your mind has to operate at the speed of war. His seems stuck in Waterloo.
He needs to be given a role that exploits his speed - eg outside mid. The way he sprinted away from an opponent on the wing clearly shows his worth. He needs to be given a role that allows him to maximize these plays.

Does my head in but im hoping that play where he FINALLY showed his speed is the start of the penny dropping
I don’t think he is a wingman, can’t find the footy enough on the outside.
Although I’d like to to seem him as an inside mid, I’d also like to see him run off half back with his pace (even though his kicking isn’t great).
Would almost even try him as a FF at this point if he was a reasonable kick for goal.

Allan is not even a VFL Wingman

Only time he looks Half Descent when he is put on ball

It would be good if we could teach him to lead. That pace could be handy

It’s not the role that inhibits his ability to do this, it’s his brain. My seats have a great view of the wing and his positioning was frequently ineffective to my eye, unlike Steele who is always in the right place

He seems to get lost on the wing. That’s why I wonder if he needs to be led to the ball or be amongst it for him to win the footy

Not even fat Jesus can save Allan I’m afraid
And Fat Jesus was Allan's biggest fan 12-15 months ago... We need a miracle from the higher power now...

12-15 months ago, people were saying "Well, McRae and Nick said in preseason interviews for the Collingwood website that Allan was going to be a star, so that means he will be!"

Sidey said the same thing this pre-season too

I am typically quite patient with (relatively) new recruits and I have been patient with Ed Allan. However, he has disappointed and what really frustrated me against the Crows was that he displayed one passage of play when he burned off his direct opponent on the wing and delivered the ball forward. That simple, yet impressive passage, was enough to frustrate me as it displayed his skill and potential but he simple doesn't do it consistently. Time to say goodbye.

If he needed to go back to the VFL, it doesn't help that our R1 hit out in the VFL isn't until March 27.
Still, would a drop to the VFL in is 4th year sort his deficiencies?
That burst of speed to move the ball I50 was a tease, as was his R12 2025 Rising Star nomination 2025 Rising Star, 2 years after his peers from the 2022 draft. Pick #3 Harry Sheezel received the Rising Star Award 2023 Rising Star.

Maybe try him in defence. While is father was a late bloomer, I think I've seen enough, otherwise Freo 2026 2nd round pick #29 is starting to look appealing Fremantle Football Club Contact us

Do Freo still make dumb trades? If we got any pick that started with a 2 or 3, that would be close to theft.

Just let him play out the year and see if it clicks with confidence or a breakout game where the stars align. We’ve got no one else who will be ready to play midfield this year, so he’s not stalling anyone’s development, or preventing us winning games.

15+ games into Parker, Allan, Harrison, West, McInness, please. Ideally see a number of games from Steene, Jiath, Hayes.

Debut Anderson, Prindable, Swadling, Saxena.

I reckon this is what next year looks like. I think we shouldn't do it this year until we have put the cue in the rack, which given it is a top 10 not a top 8, I doubt we would do until the top 10 is not achievable.

But next year when we show up without Pendles, Sidey, Howe, and have probably only one more year of Elliott, Crisp, McStay, Membrey, and with Moore and De Goey in their 31 y/o year, I think we need to aggressively blood the kids.

We’ve lost one very close game to a top 4 challenger. I don’t think it’s time to follow north or the eagles path just yet
