Can someone tell me, who knows his pre draft position or even VFL, is Allan's best position Wing, for some reason I thought i heard it was more inside, if that is right why doesn't he get an opportunity to try that? Correct me if I am totally wrong but wasn't his really good game against Melbourne primarily playing inside not on wing?

Based on that summary, we’ve been playing him in the correct position (s).

Stating the obvious, Ed needs to start dominating at VFL level.
I would of preferred we give him larger blocks of games at AFL level.

So sounds like even if we gave him a pass for his disposal on the account of today's weather, how decision making was just as poor again.
He wasn’t terrible today. He just wasn’t great. Disposal count is deceiving. Lot of turnovers etc. he’s a 4th year mid so he doesn’t get the passes the first year players get

This profile is exactly what he plays like. Athletically gifted, but no composure. Another Hine special. Honestly.... tired of wasting early picks on players who have aren't footballers. You can't teach composure to a midfielder. You either have it or you don't. And if you don't, you are battling. Ben Allan's son, but no football smarts here.

He is lot better as an On-Baller then on the Wing where he easily gets Lost
He's an inside mid I reckon. But the coaches are trying Perryman and McReery more in there. Even Pendles is still called on when shit hits the fan. So he gets squeezed out
Still he's OK in clearances in regular non centre square stoppages so don't rule a line through him yet (but as a 4th year player and if he's not an established best 23 very soon it ain't looking great)

They use blokes in different centre square roles. McCreery goes in there and they set up to try to get him bursting out the front of stoppage. Perryman will get used in a defensive capaity.

Ed isn't powerful enough yet to play the role that they use McCreery in - and with Jordy and Nick also really dangerous in that role - there's a queue. Defensive role - not yet either.

I'll cast judgement once he has 40-50 games in him, I still go back to the Melbourne game two years back, he showed he could play (opposition a bit sketchy...yep) but I think there will be a point where's things click, he was a late starter and injured in his draft year.

Still holding out, we need to keep pumping the games into him. If he wants it enough, I have every confidence in the kid.

Who am I really, been wrong before and have a feeling I could be again.

I have Ed, Harvey and Swaddles as mainstays in two years time. :padlock:

Only 2 clearances in the VFL game
If you're basing selection on the number of clearances, then it's Buller with 8 clearances last week that you'd pick - otherwise, 2 clearances is only one less than the other nominated candidates for selection this week (Sullivan, Swaddling and Anderson)

Im simply highlighting a 4th year mid of whom posters say his best position is inside mid struggling for clearances in the VFL. We were killed in the centre against GWS in the VFL. Allan was a large part of that

I get the point and it's well made, my point is that we really don't have anyone who did much better than Allan (other than Buller) - we need to make our clothes with the cloth we have and clearly we're one inside mid short (my smokey for the mid-season draft is Phillips).

I'd go with Allen this week: as he's as good as we've got - albeit, not that good, he knows the system, and he can play the Pendles role as good as any of the other candidates.
