think they should turn him into a larger alan toovey style back pocket. run fast jump punch. dont need to think too much

He should model his game on Nick Blakely. Not the best defender. Just need him to run and gun.

If only.

Unlike Blakey, Ed has no footy smarts and no appetite for the game.

Agree he needs simplicity- point and shot type.
He seems constantly indecisive, which inevitably impacts performance, and then undermines confidence.

Blakey is like a gazelle.
Unfortunately for Ed (atm) he’s more your ostrich variety.

Blakey is a gazelle (isn’t he also a lizard?) who takes the game on. That’s another point of difference.

And has been best 22/23 since he was a teenager. He’s an outright gun. If only Ed could be the same

My very mean if only:

If only Ben had played 2 more games for the Hawks...

Role change to a rebounder off the back line might be worth a shot with Allan. It’s a now or never year for him and not a lot of likely defenders coming through

Reef and Parker are next cabs off the rank… but beyond this,

Cochrane looks promising... but I’m not sold on Ryan being on the list next year nor Jiaths long term prospects.

Lets turn him into Damien Adkins or Jaidyn Stepheson. Play him up forward and give him two instructions, run and mark. Lets keep it at that until the first two instructions are achieved

Interesting- I think the opposite. I’ve watched all games and can’t say Cochrane has shown promise. At least Ryan has been intercepting and safe with the ball with much improvement compared to last year. TJ has added bulk and looks every bit a player with potential for the modern game.

What have you seen to place Cochrane ahead of both of them.

Cochrane is key position height… which I think offers more versatility than a 186cm young unheralded defender. And Cochrane only 5 months on an afl list… for mine he shows more than Ryan or Jiath did at that stage. The afl preseason games in particular, he competed well.

Ryan looks better than previous seasons… but hardly exceptional for a 4th year player… and has none of that offensive dash that got him drafted in the first place. Unless a sudden burst of improvement… I don’t confidently see him on the senior list next year

Jiath is 3rd year… so has time still. Was raw to begin with. But again, like Ryan he is playing a standard VFL game with no great rebound or intercept marking that set him apart

All in all.. Cochrane could still be a bust and Ryan and Jiath still make it. But for sub 190cm, and most non key position players.. I think 4 years is enough to know if they are going to make it long term

Joel Cochran has been on Collingwood's list since November 2024.

Ryan is 189cm. Cochrane is a few years behind so has time

I can only see Swadling making his debut if Lipinski comes out. Which I hope happens considering Swadling is likely capable of giving the same output as Lipinski, just 8 years younger.

Limpdicksci is a waste of a list spot ... how the heck he gets a game is one of Collingwood's great mysteries... absolute everything opposite that epitomises our great club. I do love squid , not so much squib

We have a lot riding on Cochrane because he is tall and we need a quality key defender coming through. However, he is not playing better football than Ryan or Jiath at the moment, most would say he is behind them on form alone. Ryan and Jiath do also play tall for medium height defenders. It's a bit of a lottery at the moment, but we need them putting pressure on and coming through.

Considering Lipinski is a training cone when the opposition have the ball, I reckon he could do a lot more.
