How did it hurt us playing them all last night?
We lost?

Let’s be honest they all played because of our outs.

They are all too similar in game style to play in the one side when we have a full list available. Especially with McCreery also in the team and not playing anywhere near his best.

I think Long should be the most vulnerable despite being a tackling beast. But Allan’s poise and disposal also worries me.

Yes we lost - and what has that got to do with Long AA Allan debate?
Long is developing a fwd role
Allan’s performance was considered a break out by many.
AA is continuing to build in each game.

If they all continue to improve it will be hard for them to be dropped.

Just played him… and mostly mid too

17 touches , 6 clearances, 5 tackles, 4 inside 50s… an improvement

But a bit like ned long… you get the good with the bad 🤷‍♀️
This year he's improved a fair bit I think and for the first time I see him a chance of getting there. Still fumbles too much and too many panicky handballs, but he's looking a lot more likely to me than he did last year - more assertive with and without the ball. Needs to do 1000 ground balls a week to improve his ball handling.

By putting more onus on him, he actually competed at the stoppages and hunted after the ball.

Haven't seen that since that game against Melbourne at the end of the year.

I guess it comes with the territory of having pendles and nick there , would always end up looking for them to give the ball to.

I would like to see him in more midfield setups.

He did enough to warrant holding his spot but with pendles and Lippa likely fit he may be unlucky again which is not ideal

Lipinski is about to turn 28... time to move on. Allan should be able to match his output or better it with a string of games

Because Pendles is performing well and Lipinski isn't?

Surely you're smart enough to recognise the difference between Lipinski and Pendlebury
I just don’t understand your recent posting kappa. But on this I don’t disagree. But I doubt lippa doesn’t come straight back

Wasn't our worst player on the night. Conditions were greasy, everyone fumbled and missed targets.

In saying that though, I don't think he’ll ever be a one-touch player but he's worth persisting with especially if he plays inside.

I don't think him getting dropped every second week is helping his performance.
I understand he is getting dropped for some 'good' players but I want to see him get a run of at least 5 AFL games, playing a similar role to last night.
Lipinski will be 29 next year, Allan needs to be pushing him out of the side.
There is hope for him we know his potential

I like that you wrote "turn 28" as if that isn't right in the middle of an athletic prime in this day and age

Out of our kids, the ones I want playing the most are West Swadling and Hayes and I want them to get some decent service. We're going to have to play transition footy a lot, as we're going to get done in the midfield even more with Steene going down. Slick handball chains is how we'll do it - Allan over Lippa comfortably due to skill.

Those 3 are my faves too & I'd include Angry & Roan as well.

I really like Angry - I didn't mention him as I don't think we need to be playing decent footy for him to do what he does - whereas I think the 3 I mentioned need to be in a decent team to be effective and develop well - when kids are in a shit team they tend to go off script and learn bad habits as they gravitate towards personal involvement rather than their role.

I'm a bit unsure about Steele - I think they need to work really hard on getting him more powerful with an extra gear.

One criticism I have with Allan.
Every time a goal is kicked from a stoppage, I tend to see him right next to the kicker.
He isn’t always committed defensively when necessary.
He just isn’t a natural in certain critical situations.
Not instinctive enough.
If he’s gonna be a permanent mid, needs to work harder on this, somehow..

Allan has the same amount of centre clearances for the season as Long (both on 4) whilst attending only 15 CBA vs Long's 98.

Anderson has had 2 CC from 60 CBA also as comparison.

Needs a solid block of games where he plays mid and more than 60% gametime to build his confidence. The current mids ain't getting it done so we need to try different things in a development year.

Yeah I think Long is the weakest link of the three. Forward his skills aren’t great , and at clearances he’s too defensive and doesn’t win enough of them himself. But he’s a tackling beast. Allan’s problem is his disposal especially his loopy handballs and decision making under pressure. Anderson has the cleanest hands and is a better skilled player especially forward but maybe less suited to clearances. He’s also the newest so potentially has more upside
