Anyone else just absolutely hate this little campaigner?

When I hear his benign, beige acousticy balladry or puerile attempt at R&B I both seethe and feel embarrassed. I'm subjected to two of his songs on a regular basis and the lyricism is childish or like a John Green novel. When I hear the generic doof doof four-to-the-floor rap beat he's put some dross over, I just imagine him sitting in a studio trying to smoke a joint and coughing his lungs up while thinking he's just out-blacked Bob Marley and Tupac.

He's just a talentless, short, pudgy little ginger with no personality and who basically peddles music to over 45s and under 15s and every bad demographic in between.

The thing I hate the most is when you see him hanging around with Taylor Swift or Karlie Kloss and he has this smug look on his face like he's actually banging them when it's clear neither will or are and are just using him to cash in on a feature.

Does anyone here like Ed Sheeran?

Strangest pop star ever. I don't get it.

Attractive? No.
Interesting? No.
Energetic music you can dance to? 90% no.

He's a millenial Michael Bolton, but not as good.

He and James Blunt appear friends and Blunt runs circles around him on Twitter, so he doesn't seem particularly quick or funny either.

No idea what the appeal is. None.

Nope. Despise his shit.

My adult aged sister is still obsessed with him and my idiotic father has lost his mind and now finds musicians like Ed Sheeran talented after listening to genuinely good music for decades.

I just don’t get it.

Should be in the things that shit me thread, not that I care really.

All his stuff is really sappy but he's more talented than many mainstream artists

Yeah but your idea of an understandable pop star finishes at about Jimmy Barnes.

Jimmy Barnes has appeal that is understandable.

Plays music popular but not within the charting trends at the time of its creation.
Targeted a demographic outside the mainstream.
Charismatic.
Has a wild reputation.
High energy music.
A personality beyond 'has tattoos'.

I don’t get why people rate Ed’s music but I think his popularity is somewhat easy to explain.

These days being likeable seems to sell, whereas in the past it was about your music or how out there you were. There’s a whole group of popular artists these days that are doing really well and people seem to like them.

Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Adele etc are all inoffensive artists. Parents prefer their kids listening to them over some rapper swearing every verse or Miley Cyrus grinding on guys at music concerts. Likewise they prefer vanilla inoffensive shit when they listen to music.

Girl you know I want your love
Your love was handmade for somebody like me
Come on now follow my lead
I may be crazy don't mind me

Say boy, let's not talk too much
Grab on my waist and put that body on me
Come on now follow my lead
Come, come on now follow my lead

HMMM-MMMMM

I'm in love with the shape of you
We push and pull like a magnet do
Although my heart is falling too
I'm in love with your body
And last night you were in my room
And now my bedsheets smell like you
Every day discovering something brand new
I'm in love with your body

OH-I-OH-I-OH-I-OH-I

I'm in love with your body

OH-I-OH-I-OH-I-OH-I

I'm in love with your body

OH-I-OH-I-OH-I-OH-I

I'm in love with your body

Every day discovering something brand new
I'm in love with the shape of you

Swift has pop star appeal. Attractive, catchy music, started out in the country genre (huge in the states) then transitioned to pop almost seamlessly.

Adele, she's got personality, seems to down to earth and whatever the female equivalent of blokey is, writes powerful music that comes from her heart, great voice.

Miley Cyrus? Like comparing Mick Jagger to Davey Jones.

Ed? General bland with a side of plain. He's just so middle of the road amongst middle of the road musicians.

He is better than most popular mainstream artists around..However that is more an indictment on mainstream pop crap.

He comes across as an above average guy-with-an-acoustic-guitar-playing-in-the-corner-of-the-pub sort of musician to me. If he looked like Zac Efron or Ryan Reynolds or something I could get the hype, but he's a ginger and he's not really good enough to get by on his musical talents alone.

The reason he stands out in mainstream music is that he has his genre a lot to himself, so a dude with a guitar playing a song is a refreshing change from some dude & some other dude ft. DJ Khaled.
