How has the lad been travling thus far?

My mate from Calder last year was a big wrap for him. Reckones he is a very special player and could go far. However he reckons Eddie himself had doubts about getting drafting due to size.

What do you think of the kid? Its abit of a worry to have a bloke which is a class above in the goal square that does not grow above 5 foot 5.

He is small, but he is taller than Brent Harvey and a few other players. The important factor is that he is an inch taller than Kenna.

Apparently he's been impressing on the training track with some silky skillwork and great goal sense. The only problem was his lack of match fitness, but Denis has been pushing him very hard probably with a view to see him playing in Round 1. He's certainly excited many Carlton fans who've seen him train.

Is it just me who think Height is overated??? 170cm or 177cm does it really matter?? If you can play then you can play noone should deny you the chance to play footy cause of your height especially if you have the talent that Eddie Betts has.

It's just the way it is with senior AFL football today. Ever since Kouta ran wild during the 2000 season the clubs have been obsessed with utility players who could do it all. Ironically Carlton was the only club to draft anyone under 180cm in last years draft (Blackwell and Betts).

4 goals in the intra club is certainly a good way to start. Maybe AFL followers will have a new Eddie to talk about this year.

No false hopes from me. All the kids dominate this time of year. If I'm not mistaken, Kenna impressed in last year's intra-club match. The only rookie I have expectations for is Blackwell. He just knows how to play footy.

I hear what you are saying Funkster, but IIRC Kenna only kicked a goal and had a couple of touches and the spin doctors went to school on that. It is fair to say that Betts did much much better and probably has a few more strings to his bow. I recall some on here wanting to take Betts with our first pick in the draft and it was only his size that had him going in the PSD instead. I never heard much about Kenna until we took him.

At the least, it will give us another prospect to watch closely and gives us some cause for hope.

Don't get me wrong. I was pumped when we picked up Betts in the PSD, but like Pagan said, there's plenty of February stars.

ODN, wouldn't you say that Carlton have been preying for a small crumbing forward for years and years. I can't even remember out last good one. If Eddie can get at the feet of Fev and Lance, combined with his skills and pace, this guy could be anything.

Without a doubt, i can't even remember the last time we had a decent small forward... when Lappin was up there it was ok but he probably doesn't have the pace like Betts seems to, he could be the cure we have needed... If Lance steps up and helps Fev and we have a good crummer, i can only see good times ahead... Can anyone tell me if Deluca has built up at all? I think he's a guy with alot of potential also, someone Wayne will be working with.

Brent Heaver was a good goalkicker and kicked 50 goals in 93 only to suffer a terrible leg injury.

Absolutely. I'm not going to assume he is going to make it before he has done anything but if he has the skills others say he has, the excitement level is bound to lift the other players and the supporters.

It's just that there are alot of smaller players who play really well in U18's then against the bigger guys they show only glimpses. A good example i use is Stephen Dinnel played really well at TAC cup level and is now only a fringe player at North Ballarat.

Of what I've seen of Eddie, in last year's under 18's and the Wizard Cup, he looks like a very exciting player.

Sitting in the stand at Colonial i was full of expectation when young eddie came onto the ground.

I left the game thinking where was this lightning aaron davey like pace he's supposed to have?

He was burnt off in a chase down the wing, and looked unfit.

I'm not bagging him yet as he's probably not had enough footy in his legs to get fully fit and up to speed with the rigours of AFL.

His 4th quarter was ok but Andrew Welsh stood there for what seemed like and eternity that even Lance could have run him down, and he was standing pretty much by himself when Lance centered the ball too him for his snap.

I was impressed though with his lead and grab while under pressure above his head.


Not sold on him yet, but fingers crossed im wrong.
