All I can say is that I'm damn glad that Eddie is on our side. You can see why some opposition supporters don't like him, but at least he was one of the few leaders in footy to stick his neck out and stand up for what he believes in. I hear and see lots of other clubs complain but they never do anything about it.

Kudos to Eddie. Whilst I hate in many ways presidents with too much power promoting their club you have to love him as your pres, and he certainly rightfully takes a stand on matters that affect the whole comp. Powerful club pres' are important to try and limit the AFL manipulating the sh1t out of the comp.

Sydney were granted by the AFL to have COLA and now that they have used it all up the AFL come up with this crap out of no where. You can't punish a side for doing something you allowed them to do.

I love the idea of the academies. As a sport we need to grow the game. Who knows without them we may not have found Isaac Heeney, Jack Steel, Jacob Hiscox or Liam Duggan

What the league needs to do though is open them up to EVERYONE not just the northern clubs!!!

If they are allowed their own academy in the northern states we should be allowed to set one up in either of the states as well. I'd even go so far as to say that the AFL should assist in funding all clubs to have academies up there. It's crucial for the development of the code!

But the COLA was there to help players afford to live there ( which by the way is about the same as perth and is further away from most players so why don't the WA teams get it ), players on 200k+ don't even need 'support' and sydney flat out exploited it with buddy and tippet as 'technically' they had an extra 800k in the salary cap per year. COLA was there to help players not buy them.

However.. this non trading stuff is also a bit of rubbish.. I thought they had stopped the cola going to players over 150-200k.. from now on? that would have been enough I thought..unless sydney were going to get beams lol

AFL is a massive marketing machine. Whilst growing the game is almost always a good aim, when it goes too far and the general public see the immensity of the manipulation of the comp, they no longer believe it is a comp at all - it becomes the OZ version of WWE, and thus the beginnings of its demise. At the end of the day the AFL survives and flourishes only if it is seen as a competition - take the competition out by too much clear manipulation of outcomes and you end up with only one long term result. For too long the AFL has been over manipulating absolutely everything with the sole aim of growing the comp ($) - it is now starting to hurt them by public perception of the comp - they have gone too far. Eddie and others know this and are trying to reign them in in some areas.
