I want to ask anyone with knowledge on egg whites a few questions. I hear raw eggs are good for you if you want protein. I attempted to eat the raw egg white today and just managed it without throwing up.

1. How much protein would be in the egg white alone?
2. Are you supposed to eat the egg yolk?
3. What is the easiest way to eat egg yolks? Would it be best to mix it with a milkshake or eat it raw?
4. How many of these a day would you recommend anyone should have?

If you boiled your eggs before eating them they would taste a lot better and they would still have as much protein in them as they do raw.

You can eat the yellow portion of an egg, it's probably good for you, but its higher in fat than the white, which if I recall correctly has no fat.

1. ~6 grams

2. Yes you can eat the egg yolk, it has a higher fat content and less protein.

3. Mix it in milkshake, ~6 eggs will give you enough protein for a workout, you wont be able to taste the eggs in the milkshake.

4. Depends I would only eat them when working out or if you want to put on fat. Best to mix eggs up with another source of protein such as tuna, maybe a 3 egg milkshake before working out and a can of tuna afterwards.

im trying to put on as much weight as i can while doing weights sessions, so i should eat the yolk?

the yolk isn't necessarily bad for you, it's moreso that the white contains a high % of protein, with no carbs or fats, whereas the yolk contains a higher level of fat and cholesterol.
i'm not sure where the whole idea of drinking a raw egg being good for you originated.. maybe too many people took the 'rocky' movies literally and believed that running up and down stairs then drinking raw eggs would get them a body like Sly's..?
I take the lazy-man's option: You can buy frozen egg whites from safeway/woolworths stores. They have four (large) servings per packet, and are about $5 each. Each serving has 20odd grams of protein, with no fat or carbs. Brilliant for somebody trying to 'cut'. I just fry them with some black pepper, usually as my last meal before bed, with a glass of milk or something.
But yeah, eggs are great for being able to put them with a lot of things (milkshakes, rices, meats etc).. I'd recommend them, and if you're basically trying to gain weight and not too worried about gaining a bit of fat, just eat the entire egg.

Define weight?
You trying to put on muscle or fat?

If you're trying to bulk up, just eat healthy and make sure you get plenty of protein (meat, poultry, fish, eggs). Putting on muscle takes time, so don't fall for this bullshit "need to put weight on" that no doubt your teenage buddies have drilled into you. Once you get fat its not that easy to cut again.

If you're trying to put fat on, just go eat a couple big macs every day and stop worrying about eggs:thumbsu:
Listen to whomb and yarbs (schism is a goldmine of knowledge on the subject), they are spot on with what they said.
