Suspected to have reached Albury. Six horses showing symptoms.

Tests being conducted now and results will be known tomorrow.

If they are positive and the virus crosses the Murray (very likely IMO) then Victorian racing is stuffed. :(

If it is in Albury then we are stuffed. If it has travelled from Sydney to Albury, then there is no way that we will be able to stop it crossing the Murray and spreading in Victoria.. :thumbsd:

This is because people haven't been listening or paying attention to the orders to keep their horses in 'quarantine'. Vets are spreading it, strappers and trackwork riders are spreading it, hobby owners are spreading it, jockeys will probably spread it this weekend in melbourne, nobody has learnt a damn thing.

Anyone that has been in contact with any horse in NSW or Qld should not be allowed in contact with any horse in Victoria - full stop.

Id be confident that vets arent spreading it.
Reported on TVN that no vet has been to Hawkesbury since it started & it got in to the Equine hospital there through a pleasure horse.

This is the problem, you can control the licensed people but the casual hobbyists are everywhere.

Sensibly they've cancelled all horse events at the Melb Show, there were nearly 200 horses from NSW & Qld due here next week.

If it has spread that quickly to Albury despite the ban on horse movement in NSW then Victorian racing is stuffed.

Tests have come back negative apparantly.

Massive f@*!ing relief.

Another good result for the measures in place.
You lads love preparing for the worst.......doom & gloom board>>>>>>>
Still a big risk but lets just savour the return to HQ this week.

I hope it all works out. I have grave fears for the melb spring. This virus spreads so easily it will be a miracle if it doesnt get into Victoria.

I still take solace from the South African episode where they continued to race in Durban despite every horse in Cape Town becoming infected.

Correct me if I am wrong but haven't all the outbreaks in NSW been north of Sydney which all bodes well for Victoria.

Reckon I have read about 6 posters on here declare it to be a certainty to get to Melbourne (a couple even guaranteed it). Geez, it hasn't even got to Warwick Farm as yet, let alone Melbourne so no point worrying about what may happen. Sure its worrying that it only takes one goose to breach the protocols and all the good work goes down the drain but still a fair chance that all may be okay.

Not accepting bets here but would say its about an even money each of 2 bet as to whether Melbourne is impacted or not at the moment and the odds are firming every day for a safe Melbourne spring.

Segenhoe

Segenhoe Stud in NSW has a positive test to EI.
They have 130 mares & its within 3km of Vinery,Darley & Arrowfield.
The news for breeders just gets worse.

Just on the news that Blacks A Fake now has EI.

Black's a Fake positive

September 05, 2007

BLACK'S a Fake, Australia's best known pacer, has become the latest victim of the equine influenza outbreak.

The pacer, based on the Gold Coast hinterland, was one of seven horses trained by Natalie Rasmussen and Bill Dixon to test positive to the virus at the Tamborine property, the ABC website reported.

Black's a Fake has won the last two Inter Dominions and earned almost $2 million in prize money.

Dixon said he was made aware of the positive tests this afternoon.

"We got the DPI (Department of Primary Industries) to come out and test seven horses and I had Black's a Fake and I had him done just as a precautionary thing," he said.

"But as late as this afternoon they were confirmed that they are positive to the virus."

hey guys,

been ages since posting on here. haven't bothered with the horses since moving to ireland but coming back soon.

can't believe this has happened. it's just a massive shock to everyone.

what are the chance of EI heading to Victoria... they are putting so many measures in place but as someone said it doesn't take much for those to go to shit.

Would be a massive shame to everyone - owners, jockeys, trainers, stable staff, racecourse staff and supporters if the Melbourne Cup couldn't go ahead :(

Every day there's a new scare,so far its been mostly in NSW.
They test as soon as horses show any signs, closest to Vic has been Albury but it proved negative.

Theres not much more they can do than quarantine effected areas & ensure protocols are carried out.
Very worrying that its appeared near the big stud farms in NSW,apparently very dangerous to foals.
