I would like an explanation for Elliot's cold snub after Varcoe busted a heart valve in a desperate team lifting act in the second quarter. He sprinted 40 metres. tapped the ball back as he seemed destined to go over the boundary line, and set up an easy snap on goal for Elliot. Jamie didn't even acknowledge Varcoe with a thumbs up or wave, he just wandered back to his potions with that sour expression on his face. I know what I'd be feeling if I were Trav.

He did the same in the last term when De Goey kicked the goal off the ground. He wandered past him like he was passing stranger on the way to the urinal. I know every player has a different temperament.Broomy is similar, but when a teammate does something special surely it isn't t asking too much for a little acknowledgement?

Wouldn't be surprised if he's disappointed in his form, he's been pretty poor the last few weeks. It's not an excuse because you can't let your personal game negatively affect those around you but maybe it's something he has to work on. Definitely wouldn't be any animosity towards the players in question or anything.

Pretty much my thoughts. He gets frustrated with himself when he doesn't perform to standard, in my view. Further supporting evidence comes in the form of his unprovoked elbow on Mitchell last week. I'd hope Varcoe, knowing Elliott personally and being a grown man, wouldn't be as upset as some on here seem to be.

Not trying to make excuses for him coz im as frustrated as the next bloke, but I wonder if he's been "off" last two games due to phil walsh's death bringin back emotions and memories of his own father who he has lost

Trade him so we can bring back d-ck to ruck under c0x wile running with goldsack ;)..................

what a load of absolutely unnecessary bs

I'd imagine someone else on the team would have told Varcoe it was his goal, so he'd still get some recognition.

This exactly. He needs to learn to not get frustrated with himself, it's part of the emotional growth nearly every player has to go through, but especially the more perfectionist ones. At the moment he plays badly--gets frustrated--plays worse--gets more frustrated. He's probably more embarrassed at his performance than he is upset with anyone else, and doesn't want to celebrate when he hasn't contributed anything. Still a pretty young kid.

Wouldn't a good teammate be forgiving of Jamie Elliott and wondering if there's something troubling him, rather than being angry that you didn't get recognition and ask for an explanation?

I dunno....

I'm surprised people are so relaxed about this. Elliott was shocking all game, but Varcoe created an important goal that looked to have escaped us through sheer will, hard work and ingenuity and Elliott couldn't even look at him? It just looked terrible and after Ken Hinkley famously referred to the divisions among our playing group before and during the 2013 elimination final to his own players, I don't want them to pull that kind of crap against Port (or anyone, but especially them).

After all, if it's ok for Elliott to remind Cloke that he'd given him 3 goals against GWS, then it's ok to acknowledge the guys who pull a goal out of their arse for him.

I take a special interest in Billy for a few personel reasons etc but for the first time ever saw that strange negative in his game and found the incident odd...

He saw exactly Varcoes thankless effort...

I tried to justify it somehow then thought "really",

Honestly it just looked bad in a team orientated sport...

Varcoe is on fire tho... better player at the Pies ;)

Yeah... don't think he was being serious.

He's out of form and his attitude might be starting to reflect it...

Not sure where I stand in dropping stars to regain form though... Part of me says yes, but part says it's only a matter of time before he kicks a bag.

At his best has the second best small in the comp behind betts. At his worst he's pretty average.

One thing is for sure though... We very rarely win a game if he doesn't kick at least 2 goals.

Are we judging him on what was on TV?
Maybe after they cut away from him he realised and acknowledged the other players.
Bit like Adams and Westhoff, 7 didn't show, (and still haven't) Westhoff pulled Adams' hair so everyone goes wtf?

I agree 100% with OP.
It was strange. When De Goey kicked that goal he started to celebrate and then turned arouns and saw Billy just standing there with a pretty average facial expression and just stopped celebrating all together. When your mate has just kicked an important goal and your not up and about its not a good look. It looked like he was dirty that De Goey didnt leave it for him.
Pretty poor. I still love him though!
