Something weird is happening to my hotmail account.

It's as if someone is using my address to send stuff, and I get emails back from people I've never heard of, usually blank, or containing one line, but take up 100's of K of space.

Can anyone suggest what's going on, or how I can stop it?

Cheers,
Sbagman.

I'm pretty paranoid of this stuff having copped a lot of grief with e-mail viruses in the past.

Over the last few days I have received various e-mails to my private addy from senders I don't know with pretty large attachments. Today's one was from "davothepunk@yahoo.com" with Subject: Mar 13 2002 12.

I just trash it straight away and run my virus software to be sure.

Is this similar to what you're getting?

I'm getting emails from people who i know and people who i dont know and when i open them they are blank, and they're taking up a lot of space too. :(

well apparently a bank in america approved my home loan  and yeah i just delete them, but i only opened my new hotmail account the other day and seriously within 24 hourse i had 6 or so of these crap email addys. i just delete them all.

Its more than likely just SPAM.
I get almost a dozen emails a day of just SPAM....just delete them straight away...they arent important and if you read them then you may just end up getting yourself worried

That's Hotmail for you. Sounds like a typical unsolicited act by those evil cretins.

I have a Hotmail account, but I only check it once in a blue moon, because of events like this one.

Cheers,
William

Yep its been happening to me as well, and apparently its a virus thats been spreading itself via emails, mostly through Microsoft Outlook. It takes 2 addresses from the address book, sending the virus via a email to one recipient while saying its sent from the other address. So this is why you may be getting emails from people you've never heard of, or getting undeliverable messages for emails that you've never sent. Read http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.kl for more details and a tool to scan for the virus.

I never use Outlook, and I've banned my flatmate from ever using it again after he downloaded a virus onto my computer which left me unable to access the internet for 3 weeks during last year's finals.:(
I abandoned a previous Hotmail addy after the spammers completely hijacked it, but my current one and my current Yahoo email addresses are mainly OK.

I know what you guys mean. I get heaps of spam sent to one of my hotmail accounts, getting offered credit cards and ads selling DVDs and other numerous crappy things. I've opened a new hotmail account and clicked an option not to be listed in the hotmail members directory and so far that account has remained spam free so hopefully it will stay that way.

Yeah, it's been happening to me too. What it is is an email virus like the love bug one of last year or the year before. This one is called the Klez virus andby what i can gather is you receive the email and then it forwards itself on, but it also changes the subject name, and the email address that it is being forwarded to. That would be why people are receiving emails from people they don't know.

I don't (at least none that I know of), but I was the oldest of 5 and I'm 14 years older than my youngest sister and used to read them to her all the time. I think I will be permanently traumatised by the experience, even years later I'm still virtually word-perfect on them. :) :D

Yep I've been getting a few whacked one's too. I get blank one's with funny titles. The one I got the other day was titled 'Honey', and there was nothing written inside the body.
