Haven't read all the posts here, but there is a fair amount of calls for embly to be droped. Don't agree with this at all, but not sure if he should be playing forward or midfield but more in a role similar to that of Andrew Mcleod. Having a player of his skill operating in the back line who can break the lines i.e McLeod, Kennelly etc for adelaide and swans respectively has to be better then Nikoski coming out of the backline. Yes we are breaking down at CHF and Forward but Embly streaming out of the back line with a direct/accurate kick has got to make the transfer of play quicker, thus hopefully allowing our forward line to recieve the ball in the forward line a lot quicker.
Embly in the back line isn't going to save all our problems however I think it could be two fold benefit as Embly could get his hands on the ball (lifting his confidence) and him kicking from the backline or breaking the lines has to be better the Nikoski at that moment who needs a couple of weeks back in the WAFL to get back fitness and confidence.
My two cents anyway

Re: Embly

Surely worth another shot putting him in the backline, considering it was years ago, and the only reason he is kicking as bad as Nikoski is confidence. Embly is a better player then Nikoski hands down and I know which one I would like when his confidence is sky high.

Re: Embly

I was just reading a small write up in todays west. Embley acknowledged his lack of form and went on to say that only hard work and a positive attitude will see him back to his norm smith best. He said he was 100% fit and had a good pre season so he certainly is not making excuses for his poor start to the season.

Like a lot of supporters I was ready to drop him onto the chopping block but after reading that I have some faith back. I now think he should be given another crack to prove himself. If he can get back to his best then we desperately need him out there.

Re: Embly

was at the game on the weekend and throughout the 2nd half and mostly the last qtr, embley was the loose man in defence. it didnt work at all really, he struggled for handball receives and just general efficiency.

i think he has to play on the HF line, he can get the ball and kick goals while also being a strong mark. give him time, he'll come good. hopefully he'll step up this week, we need it.

Re: Embly

Would like to see Embley used in a Ryan O'Keefe sort of role across half forward. Similar I guess to the role Rojo used to play.

Either that or on the ball and resting forward.

Dont think he should be dropped but does need to turn things around.

How about playing on Okeefe? COuld be done

Re: Embly

Yeah I reckon thats how the will line up at the start.

Though Hunter playing on O'Loughlin worries me for some reason.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Hunter on Hall. WHen he has played on him he has looked pretty good.

We could do what Essendon did last year having Dustbin in the gap. We could do that with Glass or Hunter and pull it off. It will be interseting the the knee and all.

O'Loughlin (and every teams small forward) always kill us!

Be happy if O'Loghlin doesnt kick more than 3 or 4.

Re: Embly

He just doesn't look interested.

I wonder what effect Cuz and Juddy leaving had on him.

Plus he was dropped from the leadership group.

Re: Embly

He'll be wasted in the backline unless he's an extra man who doesn't need to do anything but mark and set up play. He's more valuable through the middle, when he gets everything together he will be the reciever we need.

I was at the game and was amazed at how often Embers was caught in no mans land. It was as though he couldn't read the play, always 1/2 kick in front or behind the play. Whether this is a confidence thing or what I don't know but he either has to lift or be dropped to gain form.
