I can't wait for this game.

This is the next in the Total War series that follows Shogun (feudal Japan), Rome (mid-Roman Republic), and Medieval I and II (European Middle Ages). This one begins in 1700 and is rumoured to finish around 1820 and will include musketry, cannons, an all new campaign map, an all new AI system and naval battles. :D

These are the expected playable factions:

* British Empire
* Kingdom of France
* Kingdom of Prussia (Germany)
* Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
* Ottoman Empire
* Republic of Venice
* Russian Empire
* Spanish Empire
* Swedish Empire
* Thirteen Colonies (America)
* United Provinces of the Dutch Republic

And a couple of screenies for good measure:

You can read more about the nuts and bolts of the game here, here, and here.

Hopefully they can get the battle system back up to where it was by focussing on balance rather than trying to cram in as many fancy units as possible. And go back to a morale system that isn't made for newbs. The campaigns have been improving but the battles aren't a touch on the original TW (pre expansion), which is the best multiplayer RTS ever. Easily.

Bump ...

Going to be released in November. Austria/Holy Roman Empire has also been added as a playable faction and CA has said if you're playing as France, for instance, the French Revolution will happen. I can't wait for the historical battles to be announced - this would be the most awesome battle to ever happen on a computer game.

Can't wait. :)

Should be in the games forum but I will get this game. I played Rome for a fair bit until my savegame stuffed up. I never got into Medieval though.

Stupidest comment ever. Easily.

Firstly, it's not an RTS online. Secondly, lagfests online was never overly fun for me. The TW series, for me, has always been about the campaign.
