"Question" umps??? That's being kind. Leg End shoots umps first ...

When I see a bloke walk up and shoot another bloke, I call him a murderer. That's a fact.

When I see umpires constantly giving unfair advantage to our opposition, I call them cheats or incompetent. I comment on what I see. Over many, many years.

Now, let's accept that we get a bad run from umpires. the big point is WHY.

To me, an arguable point is that if Victorians, mainly Melbournites, regard Sydney as a protected species (even hate them) - an interloper in what really is still the VFL - and there is a subliminal disrespect or leaning against Sydney, then this will be a part of every Victorian umpire's psyche.

They're cheating us - and they don't even realise they're doing it.

Perhaps there should be a 'cost of umpiring' allowance for non-Victorian clubs. Say an extra percentage added to the scores of interstate teams to cover natural bias. A half reasonable psychologist could interview the umpires, perhaps under hypnosis, and determine the average loading applicable.

A similar system could be applied to the MRP though this would have to take into account both the victim and the accused, eg, 50% reduction of sentence applied to Mumford plus another 50% as the charge was against Gablett - nett result = no charge to answer.

Very good! :thumbsu:

I don't think it is Victorian Bias.
The umpires at some stage would have been placed under instruction to crack down on us taking the ball to ground. Some teams / players are given an eternity. It seem we are given less time sometimes...

Our key forwards always seem to get given a hard time too.

Other than that we seem to get given as fair a run as anyone. We have our days where we get the rub of the decisions. Have to take the good with the bad.
