Equality when rating players

Let's deal with some facts. Geelong, the club most would rate as the envy of the league in terms of their recruitment, made a massive play for Adams, if we all remember, but we won the day because we had leverage with GWS because of Shaw. Do you think Stephen Wells would be chasing a player who can't kick?

Well’s Like Hine does not Chase Hacks.

Also Adams Friendship with Buck helped a lot

Some players look great one week but the next week leave you wondering what you ever saw in them. Young, and to a lesser extent and for different reasons, Thomas, were revelations of mediocrity against WB. Neither of these players had previously left me doubting their ability until the Bulldog's game. I don't think it's fair to say that Adams is a scapegoat while these 2 slip under the radar.

Sometimes one action can define a person's opinion of a player, like the ball bouncing off Dawes' chest and the Nathan Buckley head shake. Perhaps some believe this to be the pivotal moment in Dawe's career in which his exit was conceived. In the case of Young, his game against the Bulldogs saw him caught or chasing, always hurried and labouring in his movement, far from an elite disposer of the ball. Similarly I remember seeing Thomas fairly frequently with the ball, but can't recall his disposals being very helpful to us or hurtful to the opposition. I criticised both players in comments after the game.

Unfortunately for Adams he had 30 possessions that he sprayed indiscriminately about as he sought to stamp some authority on the game. With 13 clearances to Liberatore and an inspiring game from Griffin against the 'best tagger in the AFL' Macaffer, the WBs had truly damaging mids, while ours seemed unable to cause damage in return. In the end, the best of the Adams, Young and Thomas trio has been viewed as the worst. At least Adams' performance was spirited enough to arouse some attention, unlike the insipid skills on show from Young and Thomas. In this case, it's better to have Adam's energy and faults than the vanilla efforts of the other two. Better to be scapegoated than ignored.
Sorry you lost all credibility when you said Young slips under the radar.

The guy gets bashed more than anybody on here.

I'm not sure what the point of the thread is. The original post points out that Josh Thomas is a home-grown product, as is Seedsman. Seedsman also has the advantage of being a long-term Magpies fan. The two from outside the club, Young and Adams, are just that - from outside the club. Of course, we're not going to like them as much. Adams has been given a fair go but he needed to be up and running at this stage. Young was injured far too long to maintain support for someone coming from outside the club. Of course, Thomas has had his injury problems but he has been a Collingwood boy from the start so that's a fair excuse.

I dont see any contradictions and anything like that in the way that these guys have been treated by the forum. Most of it has been pretty straightforward.

Much worse after a loss, personally, I like what Sidebottom, Goldsack, Macaffer, Witts, Grundy and in the future what Thomas, Broomhead can do and give them a bit of slack. The younger players are alsways going to be a bit up and down until they play at least 50 games.

Although I have bagged Fasolo in the past, when he knows what to do when he doesn't have the ball, I think he will be great.
I don't think that there are many on our list at the moment that won't play a part in the future (of those that have played a senior game this year).

In saying this, what do people think about Toovey since his injury? Not a criticism, but IMO doesn't seem to have gotten back to his best, any reason?

Agree 100% on Toovey. He has not been the same player this year.

Have a look at the 1st quarter Kilmo v St.Kilda. I should have been more specific. He missed easy 15/20m passes under no pressure whic would have resulted in a shot at goal.
Sure, but to say he has had a free ride and then say that Adams is ahead of him doesn't add up for mine. JT has more runs on the board this year for sure.

Yep JT's form has been better this year, although still not flash enough to not come under any scrutiny.

I understand it was for a different team but I happened to watch 2 games Adams played aganst Hawthorn & Geelong last year where he was close to the best mid on the ground. If he gets his chance at a sustained run, he'll turn out these types of performances regularly for us. This is why I rate Adams above Thomas. Thomas hasn't had the oppportunity to be a number 1 banana but in the brief times he was in the CS with Adams and Caff, it was generally Adams clearing the ball.

I dont want to be hating on JT, but feel it's unfair for so much hate on Adams compared to JT. Expectations are certainly higher for Adams than JT.

To be honest I think eventually they will both win Brownlows. They might even share some of them.

He isnt as Inside as his reputation makes him out to be, Adams is far superior at the contested side of there games and has more agression, Thomas is better at the uncontested side of there games.
like i said though, both will be be great players for us.
Thomas=Swan
Adams=Ball
