Couldn't find a discussion on this in here and thought it should be brought up.

Saw this article on the MB yesterday:

In a separate equalisation move, the AFL has capped football department spending at a proposed $9.5 million and will heavily tax clubs breaking that barrier.

While the tax on revenue has been diluted following heavy campaigning led by Collingwood, the football department tax will be phased in over two years and ultimately cost clubs 75¢ for each dollar over the cap.

This worries me. Does it mean we may struggle to keep important cogs of our club together, such as our recruiting/development staff or dare I say, RTB?

we dun go on expensive o/s training trips and altitude training already and if we can afford it, just pay the tax

We already pay a ****ing 1 million dollar tax to the WAFC for local footy development.

As a club we get no more benefit from that than Collingwood or Hawthorn get...eg equal access to players that our money helped pay for.

They should be told to piss up a rope

Our revenue taxes will also go to help other clubs improve facilities that are already better than ours.

Someone might have the figures but I doubt we're over the cap so it shouldn't affect us too much.

From reading the main board it sounds like even Colllingwood are only a couple of million over it. I think Hawthorn, Essendon and the eagles were the others mentioned who might be slightly over.

Is the AFL going for Equality or Equity? It reminds me of this pic...

Do we pay our travel costs and the expenses related to our location or do the AFL pay this?

AFL is sponsored by Virgin, which includes free flights to and from games. I would imagine their is some extra costs involved in heading back for family events etc as around 50% of our team is not from WA.

I do not think the tax will affect us at the moment, and the tax is capped at 500k so while it would affect our bottom line it would not hurt us too badly.

Great post - I don't think we will ever have true equity in the AFL, but eqaulity will not work either.

The balancing act with equity is to make sure you don't give the small kid 3 boxes and dig a hole for the big kid so he can't see, like what happened with the COLA allowance (including Brisbane allowance) and the 5 premierships it has got them.

I am hoping for know on we will have true equality between all clubs with only the two exceptions below.
- AFL Fund Redistribution ( Department spending tax)
- Non Traditional State Academies (In 5-10 years if they get their act together these will get each team 1-2 players a year)

Maybe I'm just a lone voice crying out in the wilderness that is BigFooty but here's a radical idea for Fat Andy and his cronies.

Don't **** with the fixture to look after wealthy clubs like Collingwood, Essendon and Hawthorn. Equalise the draw the give all clubs a chance at prime time and big grounds and maybe, just maybe there will be a much reduced need for equalisation taxes on clubs that are run efficiently to look after those who have large fines for tanking (or not tanking as the case may be) to pay off.

Seems the AFL 'fix' the draw then punish some of those who benefit the most......plus a few others.

Top men they have on this. Top men!

This stadium will make for interesting times. Wafc is crapping itself as they need money to support the wafl and the afl sides. The afl is crapping itself because it needs to syphon money over east from the wa clubs. Plus if the wafc can't fun itself they will have to chip in as well.

Can't see any danger in that ......

AFL fund the VFL

What I'd like is a model that results in the same level of funding as now given to the WAFC from the AFL (not the two WA clubs) based on the same model.

For the licences to be taken from the WAFC in return, and be given to the WA clubs, not the AFL.

For WAFC to retain control of WA footy.

Result: the clubs own the licence.
They keep their own money, ensuring viability. Less of an issue for West Coast but if concern for us.

WAFC continues to run the game.

If they can't do that, WA clubs should be given priority access to WA talent in return for the money put in

What's worse about this is the WA clubs are dumping 1-2 mill each into WA footy for no direct benefit.

No priority picks, no academies.
And when we were in the shit to the tune of 8 million the AFL told us to go **** ourselves.

**** yeah, QFT!!
