I read on the newspapers, i think Monday, about Malceski moving into the midfield for the pre season and possibly the AFL season. Horse is 'experimenting' with the Eski.

So you'd think it will be successful in the preseason and possibly in the AFL season? How will it affect our Half Back?

We've got Tadhg and Teddy who can run off from the half back i guess. Eski has penetrating kick, accurate kick too, will be vital for our forwards. (Stupid AFL rule changes)

Discuss. (type heaps, so i can read after a week of schooling) :D

Reality is that the Swans' (& many other teams') HBFs pretty much play as mid-fielders anyway. Tadhg has been used as our springboard for some time leading to the bizarre situation of having your HBF tagged.

I don't think it's a giant leap these days - obviously it's tougher to read the play, work out centre square strategies etc for a "true" mid-fielder rather than a HBF but the differences are not as much as the similarities.

Eski will play as a midfielder but that doesn't mean he'll start in the square. We've got too many quality in and under types to put Malceski's skills under that much physical pressure. He might start wing and then play that Luke Hodge, quarter back type role. But due to the Swans style he will still be made accountable for a man (Swans don't play loose man football, it works against their strength at the contest).

So yes, theoretically Eski will play in the 'mid-field' but that doesn't mean starting in the square.
