Haven't heard much about Essendon's plans yet. Normally Dodoro would be wheeling and dealing on multiple fronts by now. What has the great man got planned?

The inside word is we'll be pretty quiet. Picking up Kelly as a FA, that might be it from a trade perspective. Delisted/retired 6 players, maybe 1 or 2 more rookies go after trade period. Pretty much everyone we want to keep has been re-signed. Don't have a plethora of picks or list spots to be too active.

My intel is that the Trade King Adrian Dodoro is planting seeds for a couple of huge deals next year that will catapult the Dons into flag contention. Kelly, Pick 11 and perhaps Stephens this year should suffice but you never know what might present itself in the coming weeks and there’s one thing you can be sure on, if there’s something to sniff out, Dodoro’s nose will find it.

I feel Essendon need to trade a few of their older players out and draft more talent in this year. 1 year into a rebuild while they were competitive in through the H&A season they don't have the talent that can push in finals. Would look at shopping Langford, Smith, Francis, & AMT.

Seriously. We'll have two guys who are 30 next year, Phillips and Heppell.

Langford turns 25 in December
Smith is likely to be a depth player next year
Francis just turned 24
Walla is basically our only goal scoring small forward who had literally missed 1 game for his career coming into this season.

What you're proposing would be incredibly silly. We're not topping up for a flag tilt, but that doesn't mean you get rid of every fringe player that isn't a kid. We'll keep our first this year and from what I can tell we're linked to a few players that fill a need for that pick (Wanganeen-Milera, Goater, Erasmus but that's really unlikely with probably 3 WA picks before us). What sort of picks do you think those guys could net though, honestly? I'd say Langford has the most value and he'd probably get a second round pick at best.

World Domination.

Or every best 22 player that isn't a kid 🤣

You’ve literally quoted 2 blokes in their prime age bracket and 2 who are still a couple of years off.

I was listing players that might be worth trading out. Smith especially should be traded while he has value left. Have too many of his type and doesn't bring anything to the side except a mature body.

Be honest Dons best 22 is a mediocre lot, not including the younger guys.

Langford was barely sighted this season despite 17 games and his physique is the same as many elite mids in the game today.
Francis is a defender that is quite poor as a key defender that makes Stewart & Laverde look good. He reminds me of Cordy from dogs.
Gleeson, is gone for Kelly.
I don't see Francis being in the team much longer with Kelly, Stewart, Ridley & Reid in the future.
There also seems to be a lot of 190-195 defenders/forwards in the team. Laverde, Cutler, Francis, Ridley, Stringer, BZT, Brand, Baldwin, Gleeson.

Smith has zero trade value.

Langford barely sighted? He had a very solid year.

Don’t see the Cordy comparison for Francis at all. Francis is an inconsistent player who’s a bit undersized for a KPP but shows flashes of brilliance. I don’t think any club would offer much for trade for him either.

I’d say you’re right in us being mediocre. We are a clear mid table side atm. The upside is we don’t really have a reliance on any players nearing retirement and have just brought in 3 top 10 picks who hopefully will be key drivers of improvement.

Um, I don't think you watch enough EFC matches.

Langford averaged just shy of 21 disposals and a goal a game (including 2 injury affected games). Francis was selected for almost every game he was available. Gleeson is barely depth, on the rookie list, and a good chance of being cut - so not sure how he's relevant?

The only one you have a decent point with is Smith, where frankly a lot of EFC fans probably wouldn't be too disturbed if he'd asked for a trade. But at worst he's some mature depth and experience in a side without a huge amount of experience in the side.

Yes, we have a lot of players in the 190-195 range. But they're a whole variety of types, playing different roles. Some of those are also depth.

Was Langford injured for the final? Because he was not part of it and Gleeson did play in the game.

Bombers should back their drafting in and pick up any fits-a-need player that is cheap and available.
That seems to be what we're doing. Kelly as a FA. Stephens, Chol, Rosas the players we've been linked to but re-signed or gone elsewhere for overs in Chol's case.

I'd be okay with grabbing Seb Ross or Ben Ronke as well

I’m fine with us not getting any more mature players unless they’re a steal. Build depth via the draft, let the plethora of youngsters develop. Hope the 2022 father son options come on.
So many of our players are young and/or inexperienced. Let’s see what we’ve got and then reevaluate.

Langford missed due to a hamstring. Gleeson played because Hind had to isolate after the roast chicken.

I'd sit with Kelly and take the rest to the draft. I like Jye Amiss or Arlo Draper.

Both fill needs
I'd like us to have a crack at another 1st rd pick with our 2022 1st. Not sure we can get both, but a couple more kids would be good to watch come through at the same time.

Should trade zacka with second future second and 3rd plus Phillips for king gives Gold Coast experience ruck depth and picks maybe if they throw in a future first we will trade smith their way too

To be fair Essendon were a lot better than expected I had them down bottom 1/3 of the ladder but credit to them to make finals and give significant time to new draftees will only make them better in the long run, few rough edges to cut away as do every club but can see them building solid team
