Essendon has secured the services of highly respected West Coast Eagles head fitness coach, Stuart Cormack, as the club's new high performance coach.

Chief operating officer, Travis Auld, said Stuart is very highly regarded in the football industry.

"Stuart was our number one target when replacing John Quinn and we are delighted to be able to get him to the club," Auld said.

"He has been at West Coast for eight seasons and in that time they have made the finals six times, played in two Grand Finals and won a Premiership.

"Stuart has been responsible for a fitness program which has seen the Eagles earn a reputation as one of the competition's hardest running, best prepared teams.

"Prior to West Coast, he spent four years as strength and conditioning coach at the AIS."

Auld said Stuart and his wife are from Melbourne and, with two young children, were keen to come back to Melbourne to be with family.

"Essendon is very lucky to have had the services of John Quinn for the past decade and we are fortunate to be able to secure someone of the calibre of Stuart to replace him," Auld said.

"Stuart will continue in his current role at West Coast until the end of the season and will start with Essendon shortly after that so we can enter the 2009 pre-season well prepared."

Sounds like he has a good reputation, hopefully he can bring some luck and extra knowledge to the club and we'll be able to build for a premiership tilt in the near future. :thumbsu:

Sounds good. If he can keep the players heathly our team has a real chance at getting a home final next year. Finals is probably out of our reach this year but are a real possibility next year if this guy can maintain the players well.

Welcome aboard Mr Cormack. :thumbsu:

:D

Haha my last name is Cormack, not a relation as far as i know:rolleyes:
but when I 1st read that I was thinking "what, how does he know my last name?":D

Seriously though, sounds like a good resume and hopefully he can turn around our injuries next year!!:thumbsu:

Interesting part from this article http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsid=64278:

"I have two kids under the age of two and my wife and I have no immediate family support in WA. I love the footy club and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, but we need to go back to Melbourne," Cormack said.
"If it was purely a professional decision I would never leave. The club has been terrific to me, I have the greatest respect for everyone at the club and would have enjoyed being involved in the process of building the team back towards finals contention."
Looks like the main reason he came to us was because he was coming to Melbourne anyway.
But reading the article on the EFC website, it sounds like he has experience in the area so good luck to him and the club with their decision:thumbsu:

He was there for 8 years.

Quinn leaves then a few days later, maybe a week, we announce him as our new appointment.

I think we made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
