Last night I was watching footy classifieds. Heard hutchy and carro carrying on about Essendon losing their points and dropping down the ladder.. I then couldn't make out what hutchy was mumbling but I thought I heard something along the lines of 'Essendon will lose their points and pick up some early draft picks with their low ladder position' this can't be true can it?
 
Even if Essendon were allowed to keep their draft picks why does anyone in their right mind think they would be allowed the number 1 draft pick. They would either be given the end of round picks or they would be given the picks based on where their ladder position would be with points.

Hutchy and that Barrett flog should be taken off the air. I still remember on the footy show years ago Hutchy hiding out near Sheedys house waiting for him, Sheeds pops out thinking what the **** are you doing?

I don't think this just relates to the drafts and trading section as I'm pretty sure everyone has an interest in this situation and whether it would be right or wrong if it was the case. I don't see how it is right for a team that has cheated (knowingly or unknowingly) to get some positive out of the situation. Losing picks in the draft is what really hurts team.

Yes. Removing a team from finals due to cheating. And rewarding them with the #1 pick. Is such a crazy train of thought. It should be discussed here.

Why did none of the other experts on that show disagree with what he suggested? Like it wasn't the stupidest thing said in the world.

If Essendon lose points they will also lose draft picks and likely to be excluded from round 1 & 2 of the national draft and round 1 of the preseason draft for a couple of years as well. The AFL whilst being corrupt are not totally stupid and realise that giving the pick 1 would make a mockery of any penalty.
 
To me the main point he was making (be it right or wrong) was that EFC should take the loss of points this year and reload for a full tilt at 2014 and beyond. I didn't think he really meant they would get low draft picks this year and probably wasn't intended to be said.

No, just dealing with with the points/draft issue for this season.

Still believe that if Essendon are found guilty they should be playing for nothing this season and next, plus draft bans for 3 years, plus bans on coaching/administration staff. As for fines, was interesting to see what they said 'On the couch' last night re fines and it made a lot of sense
Rich clubs don't care because they have the money to pay the fine, poor clubs don't care because the AFL is paying it for them.

In reality I only expect points to be stripped for this year, for next year I'm hopeful that ASADA will do what is right and suspend the players, which basically means that Essendon will be playing for nothing anyway.

The AFL and the media are a joke, they don't want action against the players yet will say look at sprinters like Gay and Powell and say they should be suspended. They'll scream that Aussie athletes were cheated out of Olympic medals, yet refuse to want action taken against our own.

For mine all Essendon players who were injected with AOD9064 should be suspended for 2 years. They took a banned substance, they signed a consent form, they're ****ed. It's their own stupid fault for not checking, WADA & ASADA will tell you it is the responsibility of the athlete. If the players are dumb enough to trust the club then tough luck, sue the club, but you can't complain about your own stupidity.
