If the best we can do is an Arsenal fringe player how do we expect to match them on the table? We seem destined for 8th odd again...

The lack of a CB and missing Zaha really makes it an average window and spending too much on a slight upgrade on Bernard etc is depressing.

Going to be way too much pressure on Kean to deliver and we have DCL and Tosun as back up *vomit*
To be fair he made over 50 appearances for them last year. Despite only recently turning 23yo he already has over 100 Premier League appearances, he has close to 30 appearances in Europe (that’s combing his Champions League and Europa League apps). Iwobi also has 36 caps for Nigeria.

Off the top of my head I’m trying to think of Premier League wingers who are under the age of 23yo and done more than he has.

I think signing him on a large fee a few minutes before the window closes makes him feel a little underwhelming after we’ve spent the last fortnight linked to Zaha. I cannot help but feel if we signed him a month ago before all the other links came in and Arsenal replaces him with Pepe everyone would have quite a different perspective on the deal.

Yeah I’m a big fan of Iwobi. Not quite clinical but every time I’ve seen him play for Arsenal he is setting the tone tempo wise and bringing stacks of energy and pace.

Surprised we didn’t sign a CB, spent too long focusing on Chelsea players. They aren’t in the mood to sell with their trade ban, needed to shift focus.

Overall what appeared to be an ambitious window has only slightly improved the starting squad.

Sounds like Luiz pulled the rug from under Tomori who was going to be loaned to you guys.

Mate, if you think this is a Deadline Day disaster then I can only assume you’ve not been an Everton fan very long.
We are one injury to Mina or Keane away from Holgate starting at CB. We’re stronger up front but noticeably weaker at the back.

“What is the priority is the central defender, when cannot go through a tough season with Mason [Holgate], Michael [Keane] and [Yerry] Mina – even if the boy [Lewis] Gibson is working with us, he’s not ready yet for this level,” Silva told the Liverpool Echo.

I think you’re spot on mate!

I reckon we wanted to sign Zouma and held on hope for as long as we could. I reckon Brands and the club knew when was absolutely no hope of Zouma signing that should mean would Tomori available on loan and he’d then become available.

We never would’ve expect Luis to go or Chelsea to sell a senior CB with the transfer ban in place. I can understand what a large curveball Luis leaving was for us but the club had to be smart and ensure we had several other options and we obviously didn’t.

Fun fact: Richarlison, Walcott and Bernard has eight assists in the Premier League between all three of them.

Iwobi has had seven Premier League assists on his own.
Fun Fact: Richarlison had 13 goals - 4 times as many as Iwobi.

I’m not saying Iwobi is better than Richarlison or Bernard/Walcott.

I think we can all agree creativity and getting the ball into the ball enough has been a big problem of ours for a very long time. I think Iwobi gives us a young player with a good ceiling but also someone who’s started to display the ability to create opportunities and goals.

I understand stats aren’t got everyone b check out some of imagines from this Tweet, mate:

So he had more xG than he scored per 90mins and more Assist than xA which says more about the calibre of players making those chances pay than him. Passes into the 18 yard box are irrelevant cause you can pass it straight to a defender and it still counts. Which is pretty much what he does.

I was unable to find a successful pass into the box statistic for you but based purely on passing accuracy Iwobi went at 79%.

From out lads Richarlison had 78%, Bernard 75% and Walcott 73%.

In terms of a successful dribbling percentage Iwobi went at 54%

Richarlison had 48%, Bernard 49% and Walcott 53%.

I’m really happy with the signing of Iwobi I understand he’s not the finished process and he’ll need to continue his development here but I think he’s the perfect blend of a player ready to go now but someone who can continue to improve.

Agree that the Dowell loan was interesting timing, but with the players we’ve got I’m not sure what options we have. We need to sign 3 attacking options, young with pace a bit of height wouldn’t hurt too (think Iwobi). A right wing, a striker and a
left wing for when Richie goes central.

Good call me. Have liked him for a long time. Think he suits us a lot more than he did Arsenal who love to slow play the ball.

Apparently only Gomes and Delph are playing tonight from our new signings because the others haven't played a preseason game... so starting the season off with a loss will be nice.

Surely not!

Forgot we were on tonight, still celebrating from today’s win! 😂

Must say my attention to the toffee’s may just be a bit lesser when the Lions are going well.

Any chance we start with Kean. DCL doesn’t look like having a shot.
Seems like DCL has been given his chance, he can’t pout when Kean starts. Which will be soon, possibly next match.

Mina has started the season like an absolute beast.

Mina & Keane are so dominant in the air. Mina only worries me as he does a lot of holding & uses his long legs to try & go for the ball around the attacker, gonna give up quite a lot of fouls or penalties if he keeps that up. Also a bit of a ball watcher/tracker, late on he ran to the area were Keane headed it away but it left 2 Watford players free of the ball deflected past them

Good to get the win though, 2 clean sheets to start the season & Villa up next on Friday night/Saturday morning

822 minutes since he last scored. He started all those games.
