Last night on Fox Footy they showed the last quarter of the 93 Prelim between Essendon and Adelaide. And hopefully someone here can provide some information on a player.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what happened to Mark Viska? Im fairly certain he was back playing for the Bays during the mid 90s for memory.

Just wondering how and when he got delisted from the Crows?
I actaully thought he was going to be a competent AFL footballer.

He certainly looked very promising when he first started playing in 1993. A HB flanker who was quite fearless, and played the game hard.

I can't remember the circumstances surrounding his delisting, but off a faded memo, he lacked a yard of pace, which is probably the reason why he only played 33 games and then disappeared off the scene.

Others may remember the circumstances and timing of his delisting a bit more clearly.

You got me curious about this ....

He played up until 1997 - 2 games and then retired - played for the bays until 2001. Found a link to this but lost it!!

There was an old thread on this board a while back

but I'm not sure what to make of this!

Forget the Weed, Viska was the best hitman the Crows have ever had. He had a real reputation for a while and IIRC was named 'Death' or something similar for the hits he handed out. One of my favourite players at the time

I didn't know he played at Brisbane but yeah, he played at Glenelg. Had a bit of trouble controlling his fists. :D

Michael Murphy played at Glenelg and Brisbane for awhile didnt he?

Yep. Originally from North Melbourne.

As for Viska, we took him over Andrew McKay... whoops.

He was delisted because he was so very injury prone, as well as the fact he wasn't really AFL standard. Could play the odd half-decent game here and there, but then so could practically every footballer who was ever drafted.
