KEEP IT, always going to a dodgy school with a dodgy canteen for 6 years that rip people off has built up enough anger in me to ALWAYS keep the extra change should there be any.

I always do the ethical thing (unless i have gotten home i am not going to go out of my way to give it back when it was there error).

In my life i have found probably about 6 or so mobile phones and returned them all. I have found a purse with $350 in it and i returned it and the woman who i returned it too had a baby (i was about 9 at the time) didnt even say thankyou to me. I have found a $500 gold watch and returned it and just the other day the Chicken and Chip Shop almost gave me my meal for free untill i told them i hadnt paid and preceeded to pay.

I pretty much feel that if i lose something in life i would want it back but there are far to many dodgey people in this world and when they lose something they would wish someone would return it.

you have to judge the person, if the guy is an arrogant restaurant owner Fu$K him the meal doesn't deserve to be payed for, where as if he is a nice quiet humble person he deserves the meal to be payed for.

If I notice (which I usually do, because I always work out change in my head while I'm waiting for it - a kind of 'beat the cash register' thing ;)), then yes, I'll usually give it back. If I don't notice straight up, I don't really bother. Like others have said, you get short changed enough as it is - I'm just getting one back!

Smallish business, friendly person: give it back
Large business/corporations/banks (has happened to me once)/evil chain restaurants sporting a clown called Ronald as its mascot: keep it
