Re: Exiting times

Don't know whether to be excited. Years ago we would have seen most of these players over learning some international craft in county. These days they are playing IPL etc and it is not only ruining how they play, but also preventing them from getting experience against swing bowling and quality bowling.

I agree with you on all points and hope Cricket Australia, under their new elite talent management via the review, will stop these players from spending too much time playing IPL cricket in the infancy of their careers. IPL should be for players in their mid to late careers trying to make a good amount of money to set up the rest of their lives.

However, I think elite, quality talent will always rise to the top and there will be players from this group who go on to have very good if not better careers for Australia.

Re: Exiting times

I think IPL has it's benefits. Look at Mitch Marsh, coming in and playing well under pressure. The experience he gained playing in high pressure situations in front of big crowds would be invaluable.

Plus, having such a high profile and high paying tournament available to young guns makes the game more appealing to youngsters and make it a real choice between, say, AFL and Cricket.

I like the look of Tom Beaton from WA as well. You also left out Jame Faukner, he looks like he will be quite a good cricketer as well.

Gee, not like a Crows fan to overrate young talent. I think I will adopt a more cautious wait and see policy on most of these guys.

I'll ignore that comment. As it stands, we're actually on the same side of the fence in terms of support

Cummins, Hughes, Khawaja, M.Marsh, Maddinson, Hazlewood and Pattinson for mine the pick of the crop and should all feature heavily in our new generation of cricketers. All are guns :thumbsu:

If the OP was referring to Tom Cooper isn't he a Dutch international?
This is cricket.. you can change you're international allegiance between Associates and Test nations each day.. Dirty Dirk did that.

This.

Looks so assured and like he belongs at the level

Callum Ferguson?

Will need a season back at state level where he completely dominates I feel. If he can do that then he could still have a long career at the international level. Will be interesting to see what Batsmen they bring in once Ponting and Hussey go. Will they bring in Ferguson and Shaun Marsh (form permitting) or will they look to youth (with comparable form).

Yes some great young talent coming through at the moment, I just really hope they don't overcook Patrick Cummins too early, still a young fella and looks the goods on the international scale.

This concerns me along with one other thing. Picking guys that are tailor made for Test match cricket ( eg, Khawaja, Paine etc) in the 20/20 and one day squads. They could go backward if the try to adapt their game for the shorter formats. I wish I could contact the selectors and beg them not to make this mistake. Test match cricket is still the number 1 priority and I hope they don't forget that.
