Expected loss for a young side?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

We always hear how young sides will look like worldbeaters one minute and then fall away the next. We have been competitive against the Crows and have butchered the ball on numerous occasions.

We have been nowhere near our best and it seems that but for our costly defensive errors and woeful delivery we could have won this in a canter. On reflection though, Adelaide create that pressure which soon becomes perceived pressure and our game falls apart.

Still watching yet another soft free to the Crows lead to a Vince goal so distracted momentarily. Now a second goal because Waite punched the ball away, ____ing bullshit umpiring blows this apart.

Back to my point though. We are better than this but are bound to struggle against hard professional teams until we get used to the game style and winning in general.

I've lost interest in this thread now actually. Soft over the shoulder to Vince and then that piece of crap by the umpires. Grrrr

Yep. not unexpected.

things are developing. Endeavour, pressure skills are way up.
some players are improving.

but

our delivery skills are shocking.

and Fevola is just human scum. Fair dinkum , he is one of the most talented players in the league...but he is a DISGRACEFUL human being.
as for being a highly paid professional...well don't even get me started.

and if anyone says...well what about the last 3 weeks....that is EXACTLY the point.

For him to go out onto the ground in that kind of mood is unacceptable.

He will never change. He is just pond scum.

we showed that as crap as we played we could have beaten a very good side.

but those umpires killed any chance of that:mad:

do yourself a favour and punch the shit out of a punching bag if you have 1 and picture the umpires faces on their, it helps:thumbsu:

Now that ive settled down, we have to keep it in perspective.
We're still a young team for sure but we're not that far away. Have to keep in mind we've had hartlett our CHF out for almost the whole game add our best defender thornton for the whole game as well and I can understand why we dropped away in the last quarter.
Add to that possibly one of the worst umpiring displays this season and we were really up against it.

We had our chances to get a good lead in the 3rd and we didnt take them, then they had their momentum swing and capitalised.

A lot of pleasing signs to take away form the game, but the crows are a top 6 team this year and we should've won the game, so hats off to the boys.

I'd be looking in a mirror with that sort of language. He got beaten, in fact he got molested and copped a raw deal all day. On top of that the forward 50 was as congested as it could be and Fev just couldn't get near it. Sure he protested missed frees but he was copping knees, punches to the back of the head, hands in the back, over the shoulder and nothing was forthcoming. What did you want him to do? What exactly were the pond scum acts out there?

I swear sometimes Fev is judged according to a different scale to the rest of our team. How quickly they jump off.

We are better than this

Are we? We keep saying that/thinking we are, but where is the proof? We upset Collingwood, and getlucky enough to play Melbourne the following week, so we think we're on the up. But every year, even crap sides have their upset wins, how do we know Collingwood wasnt ours?

I think we are, but then I also thought that last year when we beat Bulldogs and Port back to back.

are bound to struggle against hard professional teams until we get used to the game style and winning in general.

Hard professional teams? The crows have had a good start, but arent that great a side. Therefore who wouldn't be considered a hard professional team? Melbourne? Essendon? Richmond? Cant think of anymore, and we only managed one win from that lot.

Anyway, there will be enough posters bagging out the side. Im not doing that, just hoping that Collingwood wasnt just another one of those upset victories.

clear the rose coloured glasses ODN.

he wasn't interested all day and was in that sooky mood we have seen time and time again.

i don't ask him to star each week. just turn up to play.

He will never change.

In the 3rd quarter we made a couple of mistakes in the back half which cost goals. Then their midfield smashed us at the clearances. Juddy was a little quieter than what we needed.

But good to be competitive and with a little more polish we can match it with the better sides.

agreed he was in one of his sooky moods and was selfish several times not passing to bentick and instead trying to kick miracle goals.

Needs to take a leaf out of judds book in regards to proffesionalism.

But thats fevola, we know what his like....

His not as bad as he used to be and calling him human scum?? Mate pull your head in dont think he lost us the game

Fevola's performance was no worse than that of Judd today. Our skills were very ordinary in the last 3 quarters, meaning our disposal into the forward line made Fev's job all the more difficult. A perfect example was Murphy's poor disposal when trying to pinpoint Fev in the 2nd quarter.

The blame for today's loss could be laid at the feet of a number of our players, if you were that way inclined. Ultimately though, we were smashed out of the middle & in previous years probably would have lost this game by 10-15 goals. I wouldn't call this an honourable loss, but I would say it was a sign that we are heading in the right direction, to have Fev, Judd, Stevens all have average games & yet only lose by 5 goals to a team that has been a regular finalist in recent years.

Context. Better than the final result, better than the huge amount of clangers we delivered.

Crows are definitely thought of as harder and more disciplined than most sides in the AFL. They have a knack for getting their best out of not a lot on occasion. I am definitely putting the Crows on a line with the Swans and Geelong in terms of physicality and performance under pressure. They just don't have the same personnel to win grand finals. They are hard grafting types by and large.

You're a fair dinkum downhill skier, opting for the easy bagging of individual players far too regularly when anything goes awry.

I could only listen to the game on the radio, but I thought it seemed like we were pretty brave today. By the end of the 1st quarter we were 2 men down for the rest of the game. With only 2 blokes on the interchange (as well as Browne appearing to play in discomfort), I thought we put up a pretty good fight. If things had gone differently, ie soft and stupid umpiring, and Fev not kicking his usual regulation goals, we could have definately won this I thought

we lost because Adelaide outplayed us. that's fair enough.

but 21 of our players busted their gut trying, even though they made mistakes.

Fevola , right from the start wasn't interested. He couldn't give a stuff.
Just sooked all day.

we've seen it all before but it's not acceptable anymore.

How do you get it through to this bloke??? you can't.

No....i'm just not a perennial fanboy.

If someone pulls on the Navy Blue guernsey and mocks it as often as Fevola does by not trying, i won't protect him.

If he wants to wear it, then he must TRY...EVERY WEEK.

Whatever .... your hysterical 'pond scum' call says differently in my book.

I don't think 21 players did bust their gut today. Certainly not beyond the 1st quarter, when Fev, like his teammates were switched on. I think we would be hard pressed to find more than half a dozen players who really spent everything they had today & Kade Simpson would be number one on that list. About halfway through the 2nd quarter, the ball had only found its way inside our 50 on 2 occasions & one of those occasions was when Fev dropped a mark after the ball was jolted out when he hit the ground.

I know Fev was 'sooky' in the second half, but he wasn't on his own in not putting his best foot forward, as a number of our players chose to constantly stay 5 metres off their opponent rather than putting them under pressure to win the ball. I felt that Judd looked disinterested in the 2nd half after getting sick of being 'almost sexually assaulted' by Adelaide players, an experience that a number of our players experienced.

i agree we had other players down today, that gets back to the OP in this thread, but they all went out onto the field to give their best.

Fevola didn't...and everyone who has watched him over the years knows it.

We will argue for the next few days about certain players ability and performance...but at least they tried.

I don't blame Fev... today Judd, Fev and Stevens had a downer and Thornton and Hartlett going down didn't help.

Thornton is the backline general and has been great this year... also Hartlett before the injury was a great focal point and gave us something.

I think today was a day we needed some of our younglings to stand up.. eg Gibbs... he has the magic.. but still does not believe in himself yet...

Really think Pfeiffer & Gibbs need to just have one absolutely sensational game to make them know how good they could be.

I beleive it was a loss we needed one round or another...just to bring the players and supporters down to Earth.

We also need to learn to run, run, run! Every time we did, we got it freely inside 50, amounting to goals, so why were we stop starting it. Yes, Adelaide were filling the holes etc. but someoe needed to be running by for the handball, and kick it long inside 50, trusting the forwards and crumbers instead of looking for a lead that gets intercepted, or cleared so easily.

We learned a lot today, and hopefully can take something out of this game!

We have been up for 3 weeks so I was expecting us to put in a poor show at some point. Hopefully it is a wake up call to keep the momentum going and we turn up to spank the Eagles on Friday
