Just a little sidenote from Sheedy's after match conference.

'We can improve a lot - 10 to 15 per cent - and if everyone improves one per cent that is 22 per cent,' Sheedy said.

cant work that one out.

A lot is 10-15 % eqals 10- 15 players at 1% each improvement

22 players, 1% each equals 22%...easy really:)

Let me put it this way then Steggie.

22 x 1 = ??? Okay...got the answer?

If each of the Essendon players can lift their performance by 1% when there are 22 players in a team, you get an increase of 22%, right?

Simple arithmetic sonny!! :)

Thanks Topdon i'm too complicated for my own good:(

Sorry to burst your bubble - but a 1% increase in each of the 22 players is still only a 1% increase over the whole team! :D

I still can't work out Sheedy's comments either......

Denno is correct with his mathematics and the Bomber fans incorrect.

Put it this way. In a team of 22, if each player was rated 60/100 for his effort on the weekend, then the total team rating would be (22x60)/(22x100) or 1320/2200.

If each player improved by one percent (1% of 60 is 0.6), then the new rating for each player would be 60.6/100 and the total team rating would be (22x60.6)/(22x100) or 1333.20/2200.

The increase of their ratings is (1333.20-1320)/1320 or 0.01 which is, of course 1%.

So, if every player improved 100%, then the whole team would improve 22% ??

Nope if every player improved 22%, then the team would improve 22%
If every player improved 100% then the team would improve 100%, it's logic, but I don't really know the mathematics.
I guess it's like if you melt down 4 pieces of chocolate, each with 25% fat, and turned them into a single entity, the new piece of chocolate wouldn't be 100% fat, it would be 25 % fat.
I think that's how it works anyway.

I'm trying to decide whether or not Sheeds knew that or not. It sounds like something he'd say knowing full well that it didn't make mathematical sense, but having a bit of a lend of the media. Not sure

Personally I don't know how you guys can work out Sheedy at all. I mean he has no clue, but is just luck enough to coach a talented team. Elmer Fudd could coach this team and they would win. Sheedy is no genius. :D
