OK, so the new "interpretations" are atrocious, but unfortunately it seems they're here to stay.

My question is - are we doing a good enough job of exploiting them, compared to other sides?

It seems to me that the answer is a resounding no. Today, for example, it was plainly obvious that Carlton were far more prepared to do 360's before throwing the ball to a team-mate or to just drop the ball where advantageous etc...

Now, from a supporter's POV, it makes them look like cheating scumbags. But in reality, they're just doing a better job of exploiting the system than we are. The vast majority of non-Richmond teams are in the same boat.

I'd really like to see us improve in this area, as it would just make us that extra 5-10% tougher, particularly come finals time where we'll be under more pressure, and that extra half a second becomes crucial.

I think they've been backpeddling on that rule all year, but you just know the umpires will ping us for it. Not worth chancing it.

I don't mind the new interpretation as it gives players more time to get rid of the ball. Less free kicks from the umps and makes the zones teams use a bit easier to work through. I think its the commissions way of responding to the zones and its better than some of the rule changes I've heard various commentators babbling/proposing.

As for exploiting it I'd say the simple way is to realise now that you have an extra second or two to ensure your handball hits a target. Defensively I'd say you want to lock the ball up then you're either going to gang tackle or pin an arm, which is pretty much as things have been.
