Do you have a Sony or Panasonic video recorder?

First way to test would be to get a legit AVCHD file and see if it recognises it. If not take it back to the shop.

If it does it must be something to do with the converting that causes it to not be recognised.

actually I just remembered you will need to format this to fat32 (assuming it is the same as PS3 and XBOX 360)

I used the following.
