Last Quarters

we have only won 1 or 2 final quarter this year and i have a theory why.
we continue to train the day before the game. its absolutely stupid and i think it is affecting our output in the final quarters. we used to be a very fit team and would run out every game well. but this year its all changed. i know its only a 'light' run but i think its taking its toll. i remember years back a kevin sheedy coached essendon used to train the day before games and they eventually canned it due to poor showings late in games.
thoughts?

With another last qtr lost today it means we have a 1-10 record this yr in the last qtr. I find it incredible that we are 5-6 and in the 8. Had we not fallen in a heap so many times this yr we could be in the top 4, Lots of positives looking forward. When we actually play 4 good quarters of footy we wont lose many games from here on in.

on the face of it sounds a reasonable assumption however statics can be misleading. On some of those occasions today included, we have rallied well in the last ten minutes of a game when the result has been up for grabs.

To be fair to the oppositions who we have played in all our recent wins, they all had heaps to play for and were all coming off bad losses, so they were always going to come back strong against us and determined to win a game of footy, you look at the blues game sure they had 2 on the bench but we played better because the blues were not as hungry for the win as say a side that hasn't had a win for a while.

I'm Glad the Crows won yesterday because now they wont be as desperate for a win because they have their big emotional win for the year and i bet you we will win by 5-9 goals next week.

Some times things are not as clear as they seem, its harder to beat a team that is on a bad losing streak and is desperate to win than it is to beat a team that is on top and is on a winning streak..

This is the thing, If we we're ut of gas it would show in the last 10 minutes or so not the first 10 minutes of the last qtr. I just think we are lacking confidence and feeling the pressure at the end of close games now.

Earlier in the year we looked actually tired but i think now we're looking a little fresher just playing badly.

Our training session the day prior to matches would go for 30 - 45 mins maximum, its like watching an Auskick session, no way would it have any influence on our last quarter performances.

I think in all but 2 or 3 games this year we've been in a realistic position to win but have lost the ability to remain composed and back ourselves when attacking. Instead we go into defensive mode and try to "hang in there".

Surely we have enough talent in the side to throw a little more caution into the wind?

Bloody annoying.

Not like the Aus-kick sessions Grizzlym Jr goes to!

It might be a lingering "hangover" from last year. So many players had interrupted pre-seasons or seasons proper in 2009 that they may still lack some fitness base. I recall a player saying a year or two ago that if you do not have a full pre-season these days that you can't possibly play at your best for long periods during the year. Maybe this is now true also for match fitness. Perhaps our game has become so aerobically demanding that a full pre-season is not sufficient to make up for an interrupted pre-season or season proper from the year before ?? Either that, or our fitness guys need to take a long hard look at themselves.
