How slack was the goal umpire when he called a clear goal a behind? What would have happened if that was a grand final? Why don't we get less of these Vic umpires and more interstate umps to make the comp fair and to really show up how much difference umpires decisions make! The Eagles should have kicked around five or six more goals against richmond, but the umpires were extremely byist. i was at the game and it was so hard for me not to just jump onto the field and strangle the goal ump. these shocking and byist decisions isnt in the spirit of the game. i urge all West Coast fans to write to the AFL complaining about this incident and the many many hundreds of thousands of errors made against the Eagles and any other non-vic teams. if you cant find one, maybe you should see an optometrist about some glasses

I at least give the bloke credit for not being swayed by the big screen replay. No matter how bad umpiring is, I would be even more unimpressed if the call had been overturned because the umpires took a second look at the footage and then changed their mind. Until video replays are officially part of the game (god help us if they ever are), the screen should be for spectators only.

true, but he still should have seen that it wasnt touched - it was very clear without the video. It was purely byist against non-vic team. I dont recall ever watching a game where all 3 field umps wernt victorian.

i was at the game and i saw some pretty shocking decisions. Umpires shouldnt be making so many mistakes at all anyway!

You are right the umpires were stupid, but...for therecord, the word you are looking for is BIASED, not BYIST.

Was that Number 11 Goldstink?

They single handedly stopped our momentum in the 3rd qtr. We were on track for an 80pt win, instead we have to settle for a measly 52pts...

Im pretty sure that goal umpire is West Australian, the guy that was the goal umpire for the GF last year even.

Dont know where youre getting this biased crap from, the umpiring tonight to me didnt seem overly bad.

I thought it was good of the umpire to stick to his guns, he was sure it was touched and was firm in his decision. That being said the replays seemd to indicate he ws wrong, but at leats he had the balls to stick with his decision against 40,000 screaming people.

I did think there were a few missed and incorrect decisions both ways throughout the course of the game but that is taking it too far.

As for the kicked deemed to be touched, I think you'll find it hit Tivendale's foot, not his hand.

I was screaming at them all night, but I didn't think they were biased.

The free kick to Green when he pointed the wrong way was hilarious - that advantaged us.

Jones' point looked like a goal on the big screen
(Field Umpire 1 "Mate, it's just been on the screen - looks like a goal"
Goal Umpire "Nah, the Richmond player touched it""
Field Umpire 2 ""Mate, it was a goal, it's on telly - are you sure?" Goal Umpire "I'm sure").

Richardson got some soft ones. There were a few throws on both sides that were let go.

People make mistakes, but the issue, as D4E said, was the 3rd quarter. We kicked 6 straight and were playing like 1991 and they started to give sympathy votes to get Richmond back in the game. Humm was given a free kick against when he hadn't even touched him, then a 50 that gave them a goal. It stopped the momentum.

I thought the umpiring was ordinary - bit it favoured us.

Just for the record, the Jones point was goal. I watched on Fox and they showed a few slow-mos from different angles and Tivendale was nowhere near it.

If it makes you feel any better - I was pulling my hair out at decisions going against us! All in the perspective I guess.

Re. the point/goal - it clearly was a goal but I would imagine there would have been more **** hitting the fan if the umps decision was overturned on the basis of the big screen replay. As Mr Eagle said - there is no rule in place whereby umps can use the replay to aid their decision.

I tend to think the field umpire gave the goal umpire a chance to correct a mistake once 40,000 people clearly saw it was wrong. You can't run away from the fact that a big screen and replays are going on. All the goal umpire had to say was " No, you misunderstood. I said he never touched it". And then the goal could have been given and justice would have been served.

I tend to think in life that if you make a mistake and get the chance to correct it then do so asap. Unfortunately most times we don't get that chance.

On the positive side...at least these umps could bounce the ball reasonably well.

I thought the umpiring was ordinary, but nowhere near biased. The goal umpire MAY have made a mistake, but after all, they are human and I would agree with Mr. E that there should never be video replays in the game.

Anyway, but the amount we won by, I don't think that one goal really mattered in the end.

You are upset at the umpiring and your team won!

Unbelievable.

Nah, It's being looked at. It was poor umpiring. The goalie was in the wrong position.

The very first Western Derby had 3 WA field umpires - Vernon, Scroop and Garrett I think.

The video replay certainly looked like the ball was untouched - although as Mr Q said, until video replays are introduced into the game, the big screen should be just for the spectators.

I thought Richo got a few easy free kicks.

Also the Kasey Green incident. . . the bald field umpire indicated a Richmond free kick, but told Kasey Green that he had to take the kick. Confusing! The umpire didn't set a mark and Kasey had to be told by several Eagles that he just had to turn around and he could play on.

It was CLEARLY a goal and I was pretty annoyed by the decision. The Green incident was hilarious, I knew as soon as the umpire pointed the wrong way that Green was facing Richmonds goals...I wonder what was going through his head...

...what the hell is Glass doing at CHF? Where is Phil Matera??....

:D

The way we're going it doesn't look like we'll miss a home final! The only way we'll miss a top 2 spot now is if we lose a home game and dont win an away game in the near future. not likely, mate!

I doubt you'll get top 2 with only 14 wins. You'll need to win all of your home games from here (which isn't a given, my money is on you losing at least one) and you'll probaby have to win 3 more away games. It's not that easy mate.

i think the gap between 1-10 and the rest will start to widen so if the eagles can maintain form and beat ess this week i think postion 1-4 is a monty , see if the crows , port, rich, freo ect can fill the other spots
