Sounds like I am being heartless when I say this (though I'm not intending it), but I reckon employers who require drug tests probably get people claiming innocence when they return a positive result all the time. Given false positives are fairly rare, although very possible, they probably can't be stuffed paying for a secondary test and messing up their recruitment process for the sake of one person claiming innocence.
No excuse for them being pricks on the phone though.
