Stringrays fell over the line against the Falcons this morning 77 to 72. The Rays were up 6 gls at 3/4 time. Geelong stormed home to almost steal it, kicking with 1-2 goal wind.

Woeful game in perfect conditions. Players fumbled, slipped and dropped marks over all ground. Best players were hard to find. Higgins was okay, Gill held McGuane but got few possessions himself. Scalzo was in everything. Bentley flashed in and out. Tuck was solid and one of the Rays best. A kid called Barker kicked 4 goals. Bit of an opportunist and good finisher. Boak was okay for the Falcons. Wormald injured a thigh in the 1st and missed the rest of the game.

Very little to get excited about.

Danny Stanley, Ryan Williams and Jake Johnson who has been in great form over the last few matches were all good.

I agree with Williams and Johnson but I thought Stanley played one of his worst games of the year of the 10 I have seen this year. His kicking was extra poor today. He had 10 kicks and 5 were ineffective. Of the remaining 5 kicks, 4 were long to a contested marking contest.

1 kick from 10 that hit his intended target is nowhere near good enough in anyone's language. He had 1 effective possession (h/ball) in the first half.

I'm a big fan of the kid but today was a very poor return.

i agree that his kicking need to improve alot for him to get drafted high

Geelong Falcons
Goal Kickers: M. Crook 2, N. Daniele, B. Johnson, J. Simpkin, J. McGuane, S. Higgins, T. Horan, T. Boak, J. Sheringham
Best Players: T. Boak, D. Stanley, J. Johnson, R. Williams, S. Higgins, J. Sheringham

Dandenong Stingrays
Goal Kickers: C. Barker 4, B. Horaczko 2, B. Scalzo 2, D. Williamson 2
Best Players: B. Scalzo, S. Gill, R. Cook, D. Williamson, T. Tuck, C. Barker

To name Stanley 2nd best only indicates to me how poor the rest of the Falcons were.

Sezzac, were you wearing a dark blue jumper at the game, i think i saw you

dandenong did there homework. tagged simpkin and higgins in the midfield and held them to limited opportunities all day who are usually geelongs play makers.. geelong were to loose and let theere onballers wingers to much space which hurt.. mcguane probably had his worst for the year not winning a contested possession hardly.. but atleast showed some spirit in the last quarter with these types of players getting on top... i reckon if the game went for 2-3 mins longer geelong would have pinched it.
would have to agree seezac stanleys kicking is atrocious and he needs some serious work on it if he is to become a high draft pick.. the man has the courage, size, marking ability, gets to the rite spots but just his disposal lets him down

mcguane actually got injured in the first quater and asked the coaching staff to get him off...he was apparently struggling to run. Not sure what the injury was

I think it was when he tackled a kid in the goal square which ended up resulting in his goal in the first quarter, he had some pretty nasty stop marks all the way down his front, there is suspected rib damage as well...sorry this is all I know and I heard from some of the coaching staff

Sezzac goes for that very distinctive, secretive look, as many of the scouts do. Look for the beanie or the hood! I don't think I've seen the sunglasses but they might well be out as well...

Any thoughts on falcons big man Ben Johnson???

Big talent gone to waste. Could be anything if he had a red hot go but instead he is just plain lazy. After watching him on Saturday and in many other games I'm amazed he is still on the Falcons list.

IMHO he's a big risk because of his attitude. You may know for sure but didn't he get cut from the Falcons last year due to his poor attitude and lazy work ethic. He has apparently worked hard early in the season to get back in the squad but from my viewings he is running up and down on the spot at the moment. His first 3 games of this year were terrific and I had high hopes for him then. He should have walked into the Vic Country squad on that form and with his skills but by the time selection came around, and the group of 50 was named, he was on the downward spiral again.

He has a tremendous amount of skill for a big bloke. He is fairly quick he kicks 50 off either foot and he has clean hands when the ball is on the ground and he can take a mark but there is so much more to being an afl footballer than skill. Commitment is his big hurdle. Good luck to the team that selects him if they take a chance.
