Just wondering has anybody lived near or around the corner of any famous celebrity ,Footballers etc.

Does anyone live near Warney....now that would be a highlight.

I live directly opposite one of the (famous development company) family 'compounds'.

Hell they own half my suburb - seriously.

Local legend has it that a tunnel runs from one compound to another nearby.

Can't say I've seen too much of them personally, but they stick out like the proverbial in their Bentleys.

Sounds like the Grollos . :D

I know the guys who rent a house on that block. They rent it off the said construction family.

It is next door to the only house on the block that hasn't sold their property to this construction family.

They are all DJ's and musicians, they have many parties, on odd days of the week, well into the morning.

Their landlord has absolutely no objection to this.

I was watching a Carry On movie with the lovely MS Grizzlym the other night. Not actually watching, but flicked it over just in time to witness a Mrs Slocombe's pussy joke and have a good chortle.

The wife said dissmisevly, "is that dirty little pervert Sid James?" I replied, "that is the immensely cultured and funny master of comedy Sid James, why is that?"

"Because he stayed as a guest at my grandmother's home for a week... actually I think I have her guest book in a box in the garage"

My jaw dropped as she went to find the said book.

She returned moments later with an old-fashioned guest book, flicked it to a page and showed me the words of Sid, 'Dear Rose, thanks for the wonderful hospitality. Carry on! Kind regards, Sid'

I kid you not. The circumstances of Sid's presence at her home is another story in itself.

I've never had anyone famous live next door (although Pat Cash lived up the road and around the corner for a while), but I did come face to face with someone quite notorious in my working life.

My first assignment in the UK was at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. Like much of outer suburban London, Woolwich is a shithole. Brand new hospital (the first PPP initiative of the Blair government IIRC) built on the site of a former military hospital.

Anyhoo, I'd been there for a few weeks and one of our special treats was scanning prisoners from Belmarsh, which is a maximum security locale. Some interesting characters to be sure. Double gloves for the staff too....

As an aside, my second assignment (which was long term) was at Hammersmith. From our tea room we could see into some of the cells of prisoners in Wormwood Scrubs.

So, I walk around a corner at QE one day and I'm asked to help move a patient. There is an old man manacled by each limb to his trolley, guarded by two large, serious men holding serious automatic weapons. I'd just met Ronnie Biggs.

Ronnie had suffered a stroke in Brazil and had negotiated his return to the UK to receive better medical care. He suffered another stroke upon arrival in the UK.

Being the ********, I asked how he was. His incoherent growls suggested to me my enquiry was less than welcome. It did garner a chuckle from his guards.

My wife spent some time working at St Vincent's scanned some of the Pentridge prisoners. She used to see Garry Webb a days or so after he'd swallowed a razor blade and was bleeding from his clack.

Kirstie Marshall was my next door neighbour in Blackburn South for a year. It's when she moved into the area to be eligible for pre-selection.

I came home one day to find her mowing my unkempt front lawn. We must have been driving down the property values.

Lived 2 doors down from Mick Martyn for about a year recently.

He was in a rental which funnily enough i looked thru with thoughts to buy 6 months prior to buying the house I did.(2 doors down)

My kids came thru with me when looking thru it. My oldest, who was 5 at the time and completely footy mad, commented on the 2 replica premiership cups on the mantle. I suggested that they might be there because the man (who wasnt home at the time!) who lives in the house might have played in 2 premierships.

His reply, in front of his wife, "yeah right Dad!".

She gave me a knowing wink. Quite funny at the time.

The story I dine out on the most though is living about 10 doors down from Brian Brown (ex Fitzroy) and regularly babysitting his son Johnathon!! He was a terror, despite being very entertaining.

I work for Mick's brother in law. He's a radiologist.

Speaking of face to face i had the pleasure to meet and hand shake their hands, of Prince Charles and Princess Diana back in the 80s at the Melbourne art centre.

Also meet Sir Eric Pearce at his place in Toorak doing some work and also meet Geoffrey Rush at his place in Camberwell.

Had Bob Keddie live behind my place in Berwick before he moved to Sth.Melbourne.

Hahaha - there's some symmetry for you - Ronnie Biggs used to live around the corner from my aunt and uncle in Blackburn North.

Still mess, huge build up - I was anticipating Ronnie or Reggie Kray - real maniacs.

Tell us a bit about Bob - Gh

Moved about two yrs ago now,was a school teacher down Frankston and had a really bad back problems in the end,and that's why he moved to Sth.Melb to be closer to his family. Was also divorced and going out with a younger women at the time.

Also loved his golf, had a couple of Holes set up in his backyard for pitch and putting flags and all.

My next door neighbour is Ray...

He is a legend in his own lunch box.

One day I'll tell you some of the well known people I have met, many from the wrong side of the law.

Ahh, back in the days of the Painters and Dockers and the Costigan Inquiry some really hard men. A few murderers. A few corporate criminals. A crooked QC in tax evasion schemes, and a couple of war criminals. More than a couple of really bent coppers too.

During the Bottom of the Harbour Tax daye I met Bob Hawke in his PM's office. An over inflated ego if ever there was one. My favorite from those heady days was Gerry Hand, a left wing labor polly who was highly intelligent, witty and great company all at the same time. One did not have to agree with his politics for him to engage and be great company.

Bottom of the Harbour. we lived next door to a prominent legal type in Canterbury. My dad tells the story of the story breaking and boxes of documents leaving this lawyer's house in the middle of the night...

On a brighter note, I've 'met' Kylie before.

I worked with Les Foote, and Verdon Howell at different times. Growing up in Hawthorn my neighbour was Denis Hart, now Archbishop of Melbourne, also a Hawk follower. Oh, was a year behind Ian Mort at school too.

Julian has a wonderful cellar in the 'shed' out the back of his Casa.

Yea, naw, don't know and in fact have never really met anyone famous except for Bob.

Bob was our next door neighbour and was really famous... for about 4 hours bout 20-30 years ago.

Seems the U.S. media bought his story that he found part of the SKYLAB space station that came down to earth and they were promising all sorts of riches to anyone who found part of the space craft.

Alas, outback south eastern suburbs of Melbourne is not quite as close to outback W.A. as the Americans first thought.

Anyway, ill go back to my sad and lonely existance in suburbia...coming Shane, coming Liz..seems dessert has arrived, cya.

I've always had Christmas lunch at my aunt's place in Templestowe. Back in the 70's her neighbour was Tony Bonner. Very exciting heading over there with Jerry King the Flight Ranger from Skippy living next door.

Kylee lived in the next street back in the late 80's
